You should be able to bid central into HOU or MDW in your second month on the line as long as there are new classes coming in behind you. DAL maybe after 4-6 months. Any more east than that and it is a crap shoot. Maybe BWI after 4-6 months. Atlanta and Orlando are really senior.

Yeah, thank you fellas. For those in training or have been through training recently what is the age range in your respective classes? I'm 31 years old and commuting from Tampa so I'm not too wild about an Oakland base, but I do agree with the concept of using birthdate to determine seniority in the class so I'm happy to pay my dues at the beginning. I'm just curious if I'm probably looking at Oakland right out of the gate or not?
Btw what is the crash pad situation at Oakland like?

Probably OAK, PHX, or LAS at least for a few months. No pads in OAK but there are a few hotels that give decent discounts. LAS has some nice crashpads though. DAL has two or three crashpads where you don't need transportation and MDW has bunches.
Pro tip. FedEx is awesome for commuting eastbound from OAK. I would finish a trip, hop FedEx to MEM, sleep for 3 or 4 hours on the plane. Nap in their jumpseat lounge at the hub, sleep another hour on my flight home, and be pulling into my driveway before my kid goes to school on my first day off. They treated me great every time!

Nobody "sits" reserve. Because SWA doesn't use reserve the way that other airlines do. SW doesn't use reserves for sick calls. SW uses reserves to fill open time they didn't want to pay premium for. If somebody calls in sick, they just reschedule the whole darn airline to cover it.
SO my point is that you will fly on reserve. You'll only need the hotel for the day before a trip if you're an AM guy, or the night after if you're a PM guy. So, figure $80 per night, 4 or 5 nights per month?
