Are all military applying the 0.3 hour per sortie conversion to their hours? On the questionnaire within the app it specifically asks if you did the conversion or not? I have to wonder what the expectation is here. Under what circumstances would someone not convert their hours?

I didn't apply the conversion. Lazy I guess. I figured if 3600 hours wasn't enough then 4000 wasn't going to be any better. Got an interview invite last week.

I did not apply the conversion either in my application, or for my logbook review. Like Rooster, if 5,000 hours wasn't enough time, then 5,500 wasn't going to be a differentiator. I have interviewed and been conditionally offered employment - and during the logbook review, the interviewer applied the conversion factor to the numbers I supplied. You may want to have it ready if you can work it easily.

Good to know. I was at 3100TT before the conversion and 3600TT after, agreed that 500 hours isn't a huge deal, maybe I will go back and unconvert my hours. Its less upkeep on the e-logbook.

pitpilotc9, you mentioned "conditional offer" does that mean you interviewed without the type?

Everyone that is hired is given a contingent letter offer because it takes a while to get the background checks done. I got the email from SWA that my contingent letter was no longer in effect the last week of training.

I think this may be why we are hiring. The rumored quote from GK is that "we will need an additional 200 aircraft, and that's just 737s."

Makes sense. I have heard that they are buying up aircraft as fast as they can get them and they have people literally searching around the world to make a deal on a used 737. Interesting comments and I am excited to see growth in the future.

I applied it just because it was easy to do in excel and I already had all my hours crunched in there.

I have buddies that didn't apply it and they did just fine. They plainly tell you in the interview that the logbook review is less of an investigation and more of a chance to talk about flying because right now they are skimming the application pool for pilots that are way above the minimums. They don't do a lot of fishing into how you computed your hours unless something doesn't taste right.

As mentioned above, I would have it already converted when you show up for the logbook review so that you don't have to do any difficult math while you are there. They have a calculator you can use, but I wouldn't want to waste a lot of time figuring out something your interviewer is asking. They go down and fill out a sheet that they have. One of my buds gave me a totals page that he used for his interview and it had everything he asked me on there.

Bright orange Zoot Suit or baby blue leisure suit. Either one is a guarantee.
