Yea, that was my concern. Is there much travel demand to the Caribbean from those areas? Not much of an ex-pat Caribbean population, and it seems like Mexico destinations are most popular leisure spots for the southwestern US area.

BWI/MCO and east coast destinations are a sure-fire money maker

My neighbor is from Puerto Rico and he's been asking for years when is Southwest going to fly to San Juan?

I live in Phoenix by the way

The pont I was trying to make is that Southwest has a lot of feed from the west to HOU which should fill the planes to SJU. I agree that the east coast cities will work out fine.

Read that SWA was given verbal approval from FAA that they were now a flag carrier from the FAA and that written approval would be coming in a few weeks. So with this in mind when is SWA going to start service to SJU. I bet it is from MCO, HOU and BWI.

Forget the demand, wouldn't that thing called the "Wright Amendment" still prohibit SWA doing non-stop DAL-SJU??

I believe 2014 has some sunset provision tied in to the Amendment, but until then.....

You base this on what knowledge?

That is a rhetorical question...

SJU is a cruise ship market. People take cruises from all over the country. The one issue I see for SW is are they going to equip all their aircraft for over water flights? I know you can get a waiver and fly the chain down without life rafts ect. but weather often requires other routes. Do they equip some or all of their fleet with the heavy over water equipment?

SWA has the 162 NM Life vest OPSPEC/MSPEC A013 F.
-800's have raft capabilities and some -700's.

If your going to go from BAL to SJU you will be well outside that distance. In fact I think you also need HF radios unless you fly a much longer routing.
