JetBlue Airways Corp. (Nasdaq: JBLU) announced a network-driven revision and extension of its A320 delivery schedule, including:
A new order for 40 A320neo aircraft, offering up to 15 percent in fuel savings and increased range. Of the 52 A320 positions remaining on the current order book, 30 will be converted to A321s, powered by IAE engines, allowing greater network flexibility. A320 family deliveries starting in 2013 will come with winglets, and JetBlue will be a launch customer of retrofit winglets on the existing A320 fleet, in partnership with Airbus.
I suspect the 321s will be used for the high yield New York traffic. The NEOS will have 15% more range. All aircraft wii have winglets, retrofit or factory direct. Plenty of range for Transcons for the NEOs in the winter, not sure about Hawaii, but I suspect more Central and Latin America in the future.

The -800 beats the 320 and the 321 in that department; runway performance too.

The A320 is more then capable of doing BOS-SEA. NWA used to do it. Also, DAL has used the A320 to do JFK-SAN unrestricted with no problems. The A321 has greater range then the A320, & I suspect that range will improve with the shark style winglets.

JetBlue has had numerous well documented problems making the non stops in the winter. It got so bad one winter that USA Today wrote a article about it. There are options to increase range including different tankage. Not all A320's are the same.. The A321 is listed as having 200 miles less range then the A320 but in practice if fully loaded loses even more distance. A google search will bring up several articles.

However you have a lack of enroute alternates and normally have to carry extra fuel to meet driftdown requirements. Something you don't have on most routes. HNL to LAX is one of the longest no divert routes in the world.

Don't know about JFK-SAN (is that a new route), but I have done BOS-SEA and it was problematic part of the year. We occasionaly had to stop for fuel. Heck, I have even stopped for fuel DTW-SAN twice...
