If that's the case why did SL9 ever see the light of day? ALPA left a lot of money on the table from SL9 to SL10 so if they weren't smart enough to take the carrot then I guess it was time to use the stick.
In the end this thing will pass and SWA will be a bigger and better airline.
The real victims of circumstance are the junior SWA guys who played the game and got the type, interviewed, networked, and thought they had made the right move only to have their AT classmate wind up ahead of them on the ISL.

Maybe Delta pilots are really just upset over the fact that AirTran pilots will soon be making more money than they do, also have better schedules and quality of life, etc etc. It seems so...they appear to have a real bothersome itch over the deal.
One AirTran Captain had mentioned this to me a few weeks back, he would be making more money even as an F/O with SWA! He was quoted as saying "How bout dem Apples!"
and I totally agreed with him!

SL9 did leave a lot of money on the table but it also had 650 AT FOs stapled and no upgrade for any AT guy while 2200+ SWA guys upgrade...how convenient that you left those two gems off your post.

And, as history has shown in this industry, who's on top today probably won't be tomorrow. Heads up.

Superior pilots? If you gave a monkey enough banana pellets he could sit on his ass and watch our airplanes fly itself down to mins then click everything off and land it. All I'm saying is that in Sept 2010 the value of a career at SWA was significantly higher than one at Air Tran -- so much so that many Air Tran pilots had gone through the pain of getting a type, sweating out an interview, and starting all over at the bottom on the SWA list. Even after the acquisition was announced there were close to 7,000 applicants to fill 150 slots at the bottom of the combined list. This was not the joining of two old growth forests like DAL/NWA.

AirTran pilots are not getting screwed by SWA......
Their gonna be making more money , they will be getting better benefits, better QOL and better scheduling options, etc, etc.
They know what is being offered by SWA, and they are not stupid or foolish.
Think about this,
Is it better to be paid a low wage as a Captain, or is it better to be paid more as a First Officer?
To be honest most SWA pilot don't care if they fly a 777 and go to Tokoyo. They make the same money doing four or five texas two steps in one day. It's not arrogance, it just happiness and satisfaction in our own little world.
It is good to hear we provided the gold bargaining chip for other airline pilot contracts in the future. Thanks!

You must be young. One day you'll realize this: Pay and benefits are fleeting, seniority is forever.

You act like "acquiring" AT is the same as acquiring the case of the crabs. How would those "victim" junior SWA folks do WITHOUT this merger. Little organic growth, NO ATL presence, little NYC presence. Those "victim" junior guys would have been junior for a long, long, long time.

No drama - just pointing out that there's guys taking hits on both sides here. Had a guy on the jumpseat who left AT as a junior Capt in 2008 who is now looking at 15 plus years to get to the left seat while the guys in his upgrade class will be full up SWA Capts in 2015. He could really give a $hit about ATL/NY presence and went from being junior on a 6,000 pilot list to slightly less junior on a 7,500 pilot list.
