If WN was to say hire 500 pilots over the next year, and give preference hiring to AirTran pilots, I wonder just how many would leave AT right now?
One thing I got to say about irony and ALPA, Valujet was the original carrier before they bought AirTran (mainly for the name change, after the 1996 Valujet crash in the everglades). Valujet was started by EAL Scabs that crossed the line in '89. I think it is quite ironic that ALPA represents a carrier that was started by a group who crossed an ALPA strike. (I know that not every one at VJ was an EAL Scab, but the ones who were EAL scabs were also some of the founding fathers of VJ).
So how does ALPA justify that? (Forgive and Forget?)
Has anyone figured out the more ALPA gets involved in a pilots career, the more screwed up it gets?
Has anyone noticed how "Pro-Alpa" pilots become more miserable with their airline career as they get closer to retirement?
I am not surprised one bit that JetBlue turned down ALPA.
The anti SWA group may not like SWA or SWAPA or anything else for that matter. That's fine, they are entitled to their opinion. However ask any WN pilot about how satisfied they are with their company, their Union, QOL, Pay, schedules and anything else about their career at Southwest. You will hear a lot more positive things than anything negative. That is the truth above all.

Google Eastern and value jet. Eastern Scabs did not start value jet. They were however hired in large numbers so management could have a captive audience and pay them peanuts. That only changed after Value Jet had hull loss after hull loss. I think 7 total. A huge number for a very small airline.

Actually I am toward the middle of the group. Of course this is a unscientific sample, but I am not that big nor a company pilot so if others thought I was nuts they would not have a problem telling me.
Might want to call someone you know over here to get a feeling of where our group is.
If you think arbitration and the result of that award is utopia, so be it.

DOH - 4.5 years, captain lock til Summer of 12 then -20 per month until your new seniority can hold the seat. Could probably get GK to give you pay/benefits parity by spring or earlier. Fence or super seniority for ATL for 5+ years.
Don't want to throw anyone under the Bus but you should look at what SWA and SWAPA are willing to do. Who is going to pay for all the lawyers if things go really bad, I doubt ALPA will, considering no one will be contributing dues any longer.
I know the world has changed since Muse, but the AirTran guys are playing with fire.

Guys, you know NOTHING about the future of AT guys pilots, AMT's and Fa's, will suck for them, they are getting a golden coin that the ENTIRE world of aviation would love to have, and they are about to RUIN if for themselves. Seniority is not everything, quality of life is what YOU make it, if you don't like where you work don't make if miserable for those of us that do like it. Choices are there for all. If you think you going to ruin it for us already busted our butts to get on with SWA, think again.....

And here's a little historical tidbit for him - I never applied to SWA, because I never wanted to work there. Still don't.

SWA has nothing that I want... and I am sure I am not alone. And you are wrong. Seniority IS everything.

In May of 2010, 96.2 percent of eligible AT pilots turned out to vote to strike and a resounding 97.48 percent said YES! (copied from another thread)
So 97.48% were willing to stop working at AT. That's about 1500 pilots.
I wonder how/if this could affect the arbitrator's look at job expectations.

It is embarrassing to read what some of the people post on here while claiming to be SWA pilots. I hope they actually don't and are just people trying to stir the pot.

Good luck to all through the negotiations.
