And on the other hand, the Delta pilots won't let LUV taxi too fast in ATL... its a constant bottle neck, especially if you are landing on the south runway in macon...

Welcome to the Atlanta moneyline, where quick turns go to die. You're 27 in sequence behind the AF heavy, monitor tower, and don't even think of asking for an intersection takeoff!

Also, watch out for a certain ramp controller on 5, who will put you nose to nose with another airplane in a hurry when she is in the weeds if you let her. Absolutely no SA.

I think Delta hit about 140 its on a taxiway Oct. '09 in ATL. SWA can't touch that. We have a max taxi speed of 30 kts.

I'm a DAL guy, and while that incident had no humor........

That comment is pretty darn funny!

(Oh, and CAL has the taxi speed record in EWR, D'oh!)

Yes, just adding a little humor. I would not have mentioned it if it had been one of your fatal accidents (as you did) but since we were talking taxi speeds and no one was hurt... I thought it would bring a chuckle. Sorry if my sense of humor offended you Gjerk. I even put in a smiley face for you so it would be understood for humor. I don't see a need to 'clean up' my post for one guy who doesn't get it. It was written for the masses and most understood it.

I must have missed that one, had I known about it, I would have used that and not ruffled Gjerk's feathers.

fwiw, or according I think to ACL (I'll quote him here), the FAA flight tested that same close in runway change from the normal landing runway to the takeoff runway (27L to 27R) and they lined up on the taxiway as well. If I remember right they'd declared an emergency, landing early in the morning and 3 runway changes.

All that to say, if you have a lot of yellow taxi signs lit up the morning on both sides of the taxiway going mostly the length of the runway and compounding issues then, well, you just end up returning to the line.

FWIW, the nose wheel rubber markings were split by the yellow taxi line, so if I may...

Now let's be a little more frank about fatal accidents and incidents. Since 1990, if you look at the database both DAL and NWA had one fatal accident each involving a ramper on push back and SWA of course the child in the MDW accident which is admittedly a freak accident in that all of the passengers were fine.

Other than that since a runway incursion accident at NWA in 1990 (prior to that there was a DAL crash in 1988) not a single passenger has been killed as a result of pilot's actions at all 3 airlines. Now yes there have been incidents, but luckily, no fatalities.

Your correct on the FAA in Atlanta. When the recreated the event even knowing that the Delta crew had lined up on the taxiway the FAA crew also inadvertently lined up on the taxi way. That was one of the reasons the crew got of with a fairly light punishment. In addition there were numerous pilot reports that the new lighting installed made the taxiway look like a runway. Thats a good reason to file a ASAP ect... You might not only protect yourself but you might protect another crew later.
