AirTran MEC Rejects SLI proposal

I was summarily dumped on by young delta guys when I suggested #3 be used during our merger. Funny how times change, right?
Good luck to the SWA/Tranny guys. Hope you can find a solution that doesn't trash your airline. I also hope all of this (USAir, United, + SWA) reminds our management how much our cooperation was/is worth.

My lord man, why is this so difficult, you have essentially the exact same group of pilots flying similar equipment, but for some reason SWA pilots feel they are "superior" to the AirTran pilots. News flash, get over it, and merge the list with relative seniority. You lose absolutely nothing and you gain a huge bargaining chip at your next round of contract negotiations.

and Who cares? (that will have a say in the matter)
America West bought US Airways (but kept the Airways brand)
Result: Relative seniority with carve outs at the top for East long haul international
Delta bought Northwest
Result: Relative seniority within the widebody/narrowbody ratios
Republic bought Frontier
Result: Relative seniority
United bought Continental
Result: not until the joint contract is done (but indicators point to relative seniority)
As you can see.....Bankrupt or not, payrate disparity or not, acquirer or acquired....the precedent has been set for a relative integration.

What, are you new here?...all they've done is gain all due to their superior skills and negotiating prowess as "SWA" pilots, so therefore all SWA pilots are superior to all other pilots. Don't you know that? They also all have God-given skills that make them superior to the multiple tens of thousands of other pilots on this globe - just ask them. Therefore you and all of the rest of us should just fall in line behind them. They were hired by SWA, afterall, to fly airplanes - unlike the rest of us peasants that were hired by "the others"... to fly the same airplanes...They're just better - go with it.

What is disappointing for the AirTran pilots, is they were not allowed to vote. Just the MEC guys. How would the vote go if the whole pilot group voted ??? Obviuosly, we will never know. But it probably would have the same ratio as the Southwest guys. For the most part, pilots want the best for everyone including themselves. It takes the 5% to ruin it for everyone else.

hockeypilot - you are missing the point. Look at both sides. Yes SWAPA voted 19-0 in favor of, and the Air Tran MEC voted 7-1 against. But as pilots, union brothers as a whole would have voted in line together for the most part. Whether that vote would have been in favor or against. It really does not matter now. Just an opinion.
Would have been a unique situation to be able to vote. Let the whole seniority list decide the fate of their careers instead of eight dudes. Now it will be decided by one individual, the arbitrator.
If given a choice, I rather like to vote on MY career, not someone else.

Amen. Put the pre-1993 SWA guys on the list then merger the rest using a ratio, DoH or relative system. Its so simple the arbitrator will take his money and laugh all the way to the bank.
