The other observation is that I feel your pain. We used to have the Delta Family... the employees chipped in and bought a 767 for cryin' out loud... That dies a horrible death. Welcome to reality.. (for us). Maybe it won't happen to you, but short a dissolution of this deal, there WILL be hard feelings on one side or the other. For that I send you condolences.
Actually, to talk to guys that are now retired (I flew with some before furlough) some of them worked on the ramp and else where back in the 70s during that horrible economy - most of you aren't old enough to remember. SWA was just a startup flying in Texas in those days. DAL family was destroyed by Ron Allen/Leo Mullin post 1993. When I was in New Hire class they still said the words but it just wasn't true. Let's not make it sound like only SWA is the only company to have great culture - you didn't invent it.

So if it's not about you guys, you can't continue to use your merger as an example of how it should go.

This specific exchange between you and I was really initiated by me answering a question from FTB about that exact subject.
1 Seat,

The reason we (DAL guys) use our merger for examples is because we went through and had fairly good communications with our union about the SLI process and the LAW. We just trying to share with you what might (could/will) happen in arbitration. If you look at sports that has salary arbitration it can often look ugly because the people (lawyers) representing both sides are trying to win the best deal for their clients - the same thing will happen to you. There are a number of pDAL and pNWA pilots senior (from DOH) working with their counterparts - sometimes on the order of 3/4 years difference. We've worked through it and you will have to also.

RBF,

Never suggested that anyone take a pay cut. The FEDEX folks would have to give me a BIG pay raise to make me want to have their schedule. They have a lot of time off and make some pretty good change, but my lifestyle and schedule will allow me to live longer. Just saying.

Since you mentioned marrying up. I have told my wife that if something happens to her I would NEVER marry without a pre-nup. No one deserves to have what belongs to my children and grandchildren just because I might think they make me happy for a short period of time. Marrying up does not entitle anyone to anything. Again, just saying.

A marriage continues because each side compromises at some time during the marriage. When one side compromises all the time then eventually the marriage will probably end. Couples stay together for the children every day, but when the children are gone how many end up divorced? Again just saying.

I want so much for this deal (SWA/AT) to work. I am but one person and in the end my opinion is worthless. No compromise, no marriage.

I will leave you guys with one thought and then I am bugging out because I am exhausted.

THOSE THAT HAVE EARNED MUCH AND THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN GIVEN MUCH SHOULD BOTH BE THANKFUL. THEY SHOULD TRY TO LEAVE SOMETHING OF VALUE BEHIND FOR OTHERS. If you leave nothing of value behind then your existence was of no value.

The Oscar (please tell me I am not sounding so Squishy)

Lets be real, they bought AirTran for ATL, they had been trying for years to get in there (oh and perhaps for some of the planes). I don't have a dog in this fight, but I wish everyone involved the best of luck.

Psst!... 'The gates in LGA and DCA, don't forget those. Oh, the International Flying and the Reservations System. Don't forget those either'.

Hmmm, Sure are a lot of Boeing 717 seats to fill if they let the AirTran guys go with the wind... Oh, most of the 717's are leased and there are still 22+ 717's in the desert. Not like any one is clamoring to fly 717's these days (Well, maybe Hawaiian)...Even if they get them and the engines for free from Boeing and Rolls Royce.

Yup, They've married their ugly cousin. Admit it.

We might be based in Orlando, but we're all GEORGIA.

Pssst!... Those 717's from the desert are no longer there. Apparently there is a market, McBoeing hasn't announced where they're going yet.

There are only two left on their lease page, 55166 and 55168. The rest were taken off the website just last week.

I agree with you about the SLOTS at both DCA and LGA, but the reservation system is not going to be able to work. Navaitar or whatever the spelling is is just not strong enough to handle both WN and FL. It has been tried and the outcome was a disaster.
