AirTran MEC Rejects SLI proposal
#381
You guys keep mentioning culture in what is a seniority list integration discussion, which is puzzling to me. Mainly because, I've participated in more than a few SLI discussions/debates over the years for different airlines and it was a word rarely used.
Why are you guys talking "culture" so much and how is it supposed to sway opinions of the Air Tran pilots and if need be the arbitrator(s)?

This is a powerful message from Gary Kelly. Take some time to read and understand it. I believe that the AirTran ALPA board saw no downside to turning down the proposed agreement. After reading this, there is considerable downside.
I believe that the AirTran pilots will deeply regret the day they gave this a thumbs down.

The message was -- ultimatums and strong arm tactics aren't going to work.
Clearly you weren't listening.
This is one of those inflection points in a corporation's history. Gary Kelly and SWAPA can extend the SWA "culture" to their new family members or they can have a USAir style civil war within the company. The next few weeks will tell the tale.

Okay, I am sorry but here we go..... People who have NO idea how long the upgrade time is at SWA have NO business commenting! Three year upgrade time????? Better get your facts correct before stating something like that. There are guys at SWA that have been on property 6 - 8 years with no upgrade to the captain seat... Tell me how fair it is for a person hired at Airtan 7 years ago to come over to SWA and be placed in a Captain seat with captain pay when the Company that purchased and yes, I said purchased Airtan has 7 year FO's earning considerably less and keeping their FO seat. I just do not get why this is so called FAIR and Equitable............

I would say that the NWA/DAL merger, with all of its flaws, was probably the benchmark for airline mergers that others would like to copy, i.e., UAL/CAL...can anyone think of a better merger? Doesn't appear that SWA/AT will resemble it at all.

No what you think is fair and equitable is for you to keep your seniority on the back of all SWA pilots... And reep the benefits of QOL, and all other benefits-- you want it all? Now I know several Airtan guys and they are very happy to be coming to SWA.. What does that tell you. Some have even said they HIT the lottery. How does that sound to an arbitrator????

The AirTran guys can speak for themselves, they don't need Southwest pilots to speak for them. The AirTran MEC just spoke - the offer made by Southwest was unacceptable to the AirTran pilots.
Time to sweeten the offer, or go to a neutral arbitrator who will make an offer you can't refuse.

Unconvincing.

It seems like the AirTran MEC sent the powerful message.
