SWA has never furloughed a single pilot in over thirty years. I guess everyone should just be happy with the career ending SLI results. It probably makes no difference if RAH is CH 7 in the next few years.

Delta never furloughed a single pilot in 60+ years, right up to the first time they furloughed in the 90's. Just because it hasn't happened yet is no guarantee that it won't happen in the future

Most of the key points have been mentioned. SWA has higher costs than does Airtran (higher unit costs, not just labor,) and must cover the costs by raising yields. SWA typically operates a more even flow out of cities as opposed to Airtran's banked structure in ATL (which happens to be parked right on top of DAL's banks,) so they believe there will be some effeciency gains there. The SWA product doesn't have bussiness/first class, so DAL might get some (higher yielding) traffic from that. And as others have mentioned, the inudstry as a whole is healthier with fewer competitors.

I think he summed it up well in saying. "the industry is only as smart as its dumbest competitor. Southwest is not dumb." Like others have said, they don't Flood in capacity for the sake of market share and at the expense of profits.

Analysts say SWA's prices are 6% higher on average than AirTran, so in that respect, competition will decrease. However, with SWA's greater network of destinations, that might offset it to some extent.

Jedi Master Yoda says about Delta, "When 87 years YOU have, look as good as I YOU will not!"

Like who? DAL chased SWA out of SLC. SWA has also pulled down in DTW quite a bit. Once again, no reason to worry.

I think he is talking about ATA. I believe we still have flights in and out of SLC. They are almost always full. The ones I fly their anyway. The only thing I care about is what I get on the 5th and 20th of every month. I dont care where I go or what I do it in as long as that check clears.

Yup... it has never happened.. and never will. Talk to JP McLaughlin about that kind of quote, and you will realize how arrogant and short sighted it truly is. (He was the first guy furloughed at DAL in the 90s)

Perhaps he was speaking of ATA. But I think his logic is flawed. I mean, shouldn't everyone be afraid of AA since they did the same to TWA?
I do agree on the paycheck thing, but my dates are the 31st & 15th.

While you're technically correct, tell me again about the SLI with the Muse/Transtar pilots.
