If you SWA guys can't tell, this place is a Delta playground.

It's worth it if it saves the company culture. SWA should put those 1800 guys on the street and park those airplanes while they hire and train 1800 "good" pilots. The immediate loss of money would eventually be re-cooped by maintaining the culture. Have you guys proposed that to Mr. Kelly?

For all I know, SWAPAs next contract will be highly concessionary. This biz is very cyclical and nothing is guaranteed. Some swa guys want us to give up seniority with no guarantees of future earnings. Seniority doesn't have an ammendable date, your contract does.

One way or the other, it will all work out.

We need to expand our thinking here just a little bit.

There is no provision in SWAPA's contract for bidding between aircraft types, and there is no pay scale for 717's.

We need to come to a mutually agreeable solution where we can all enjoy the benefits of a successful company.

I agree with a lot of what you say here. If the AirTran guys get a straight ratio, it will be an extremely bitter pill for SWA pilots because it would ignore the huge difference in years of service to the company. I'm very sure Kelly is concerned about what would happen to the SWA culture if such an SLI was granted by an arbitrator.

The problem for the SWA guys here unfortunately, is that the second this acquisition was announced, SWA pilots had almost nothing to gain and the AirTran guys had everything to gain. This imbalance puts SWA pilots in a position of weakness when you have nothing to gain. Kelly had to know this as well.

I don't have any solutions, just throwing in my 2 cents. But I do understand the angst on the SWA side.

You guys had a chance to hold the company up for a King's ransom. They need the pilots to grease this deal, and if you gave up too easy, then it's no one's fault but your own.

When the man comes to you and says "We need you boys on board for this here merger", the ONLY thing you say is "what's it worth to you?" followed by "well, we have your request...we'll get back to you".

You do NOT say "thank you sir, may I have another".

Wow, what a culture. You propose to put 1800 guys on the street, park what 130 some plus a/c while you are still paying for 130 some a/c. Train what you call 1800 "GOOD pilots", pay for lawsuits for the next 10 years. I think you should be the one to propose this to Mr. Kelly. Maybe the SWA culture would be a better place without people like you in it.
