SWA rode the express elevator to success and got bloated and lazy. This is the result.
I don't trust a single thing coming out of Dallas. Our C suite and their herd of VPs are way more concerned with self preservation than making this place better.

The announcements were lame, underwhelming, and totally predictable. Announcing that you are spending all your cash reserves on stock buybacks is, quite simply, beyond the pale. That was the real announcement. The rest was window dressing.
The only reason to buy back a chunk of underperforming stock is to have the dual effect of bribing institutional investors to allow our crop of underperforming airline executives to keep their jobs and to increase the value of shares paid to execs, BOD, and our illustrious chair, who is still under contract for 2 more years after his departure.
This is corporate raider stuff, which is ironic, because I thought that Elliott were supposed to be raiding us, but it turns out the raiders were inside the house the whole time.
So choose your poison, not that any of us will get to choose. At this point, I am willing to take a chance on the unknown rather than this group of criminals.

So because SWA authorized a buyback, that automatically means corprate raidership?
What about AAPL, Google, microsoft, Visa, chevron? Some of the largest buybacks in the market. Are they experiencing corprpate raidership too?
Buybacks are a way to return money to investors. You sound like Elizabeth Warren.

The same thing that's always gone on. We are led by a group of people who are so afraid of change that they led us into this position of weakness. Now that they are forced to change, it's half measures and pitiful gestures. One thing they can rely on, though, is the good old Gary Kelly investor bribe.

1. EIM is knocking at the door and wants to fire them all. They are in self preservation mode and looking under the couch cushions via leaseback schemes and other free cash flow generating revenue models to bribe institutional investors to keep their jobs.
2. EIM is knocking at the door and wants to install a board of directors that is going to hollow out Southwest and turn it into a short term cash printer and then dump it. Current leadership are freeing up cash to pay investors and generate earnings to defend the airline and its people from this outside invader.
I am firmly in the option 1 camp after todays announcements. Maybe I am getting jaded after a decade of mostly empty promises from Dallas, but this sure feels like they are in short term panic mode to preserve their jobs so that they can keep on slogging along with their stale and inept leadership that they have demonstrated for the last decade or so. While I am no fan of EM or their founder, I hope they succeed in flushing the C suite and giving this place a fresh start.

Boy I though pilots were suppose to be smart! I guess not after looking at some of these comments. Elliot will gut this company just like they did AT&T you can take that to the Bank!
