Elliott said that such preferences did not emerge overnight and are proof that Southwest management has not been doing its job. The plans announced Thursday, the investment company said, came more than a decade late and after a 50% decline in the Southwest share price over the past three years. (Southwest shares were trading on July 26 at approximately 55% of their price from three years ago.)
"Elliott has engaged in direct dialogue with Southwest's board on the scale and urgency of change needed at the company. But this failed leadership team's announced initiatives -- obvious attempts at self-preservation -- are simply not credible," the company said.
Yahoo and Forbes have quotes from Elliott. Phil Lebeau read a direct statement from Elliott on CNBC, said its not normal for Eliott to go directly after a CEO's head
In a statement on behalf of Partner John Pike and Portfolio Manager Bobby Xu, Elliott said that the moves come “more than a decade late, and after a 50% decline in its share price over the past three years.” It added that the actions were made by “the same leadership team that has presided over a series of failed measures to improve performance, repeated operational missteps and poor financial results.”
Elliott went on to say that management was “simply not doing its job” by failing to recognize that the desires of most of its customers were being unmet. The firm said it looks forward “to offering our fellow shareholders an opportunity to elect a Board of industry leaders that can return Southwest to best-in-class performance.”
Today, Southwest finally conceded that four out of five customers' preferences went unmet in recent years. These preferences did not emerge overnight; management simply was not doing its job.

Now that's some funny sh** right there. There is ZERO reason for the company to give up revenue by saving premium, aisle, or window seats for DH'ers since 93% of you all voted YES!!! for this contract, including, specifically, the following language:
Starting in 2025, SWA pilots will be sitting in middle seats when DH'ing close to 100% of the time thanks to the language 93% of us handed the company.
Maybe we'll get better language in 2032 or 2033 when we're voting on the 2028 CBA.

As far as our votes, I'm on record here as to how I disagreed with this deal. But, all things being equal, I'm not disappointed that the deal went though. I'll probably be singing a different tune as soon as I have to DH from BWI yo LAX in a middle seat!
