So jetway Jesus is going out of business, and customers won't get as much anxiety over the boarding "asap" stampede. I hope we get comparable First Class seats like the competition. It's about mighty time.
SWAPA needs to make certain that we will not be made to DH in a middle seat. Other than red eyes not being a crowd favorite, I say let's get going!

In the event the Company implements assigned seating or a premium seating product during the duration of this Agreement, deadheading Pilots will not be assigned a middle seat, a seat in the last row of the aircraft, or a non-premium seat, unless these seats are the only types available at the time of booking.
All of our jobs just became that much more painful.
Maybe we'll get better language in 2032 or 2033 when we're voting on the 2028 CBA.

Now that's some funny sh** right there. There is ZERO reason for the company to give up revenue by saving premium, aisle, or window seats for DH'ers since 93% of you all voted YES!!! for this contract, including, specifically, the following language:
Starting in 2025, SWA pilots will be sitting in middle seats when DH'ing close to 100% of the time thanks to the language 93% of us handed the company. As they say, language matters. And no, there won't be nearly enough of our cult members calling in fatigued after a middle seat DH to amount to anything more than a mosquito buzzing in the company's ear. Thanks Jody! Thanks Casey!! Thanks BOD!!! Thanks to the 93%!!!!

You guys are killing me. I am sure some last minute DHs will end up in middle seats just like they do now, but I am willing to bet the vast majority end up in the new seats whatever those end up being (sounds like just extra legroom).
It would make sense that we just pick the seat in the app when we check in, which means it will be up to us.

Bottom line is the whole process is going to change. It will be AW's job to figure it out. I'm glad we have some stuff in the CBA about this. I'm pretty sure they try to be unique in some way. Old problems will disappear and new ones will be created. Inflight and ground ops will have a lot of say. Flight ops will stay out of it and worry about guys not flying around a 150'ft. I'm pretty sure they will be busy with the FAA.

I think SWA is going to run into the same problem with the new economy plus seats that they have now with their current seats. SWA prices are often as expensive or more expensive than premium economy on other airlines. Sometimes first class is within $75 of the cheapest SWA fare. I assume the new legroom seats will meet or exceed first class prices on others, minus the actual first class and amenities. Who would do that?
Sounds like management was scared out of 2x2 seating due to the cost of buying 8 new seats per aircraft.

When this get's turned on, it will be competitive as far as pricing goes. It has to. They will price the product to get butts into seat's. Rapid Rewards has brought close to 5 billion in redemption points as of the 1st quarter of 2024 that is on the books. Almost half of SWA's air traffic liabilty(advanced ticket sales) is RR. Other than assign seating, this will be a big change also. That will hopefully also entice people to swipe more. If they try to gouge the consumer, especially in this early stage, it will fail big. If try to screw the RR customers, that will fail too. I think the simplicity of moving seats around, the cost of it doing it and speed of which to convert 800 airplanes is probably as far as they were willing to go for now.
With all this hoopla about assign seating/premium has anybody noticed our aircraft deliveries that are to be scheduled over the next few years?
"Looking beyond 2024, we remain committed to earning our right to grow and plan to keep any future growth at or below macroeconomic growth trends until we reach long-term financial goal of returns on invested capital consistently in excess of our cost of capital."
Another words, no growth for a while. I bet every new airplane we get, one will go to the boneyard. We won't be hiring for long while.
