Love that this thread has gone to complete wild guesses and good old SWA bashing by pilots from airlines that have all committed much worse sins in their cockpits. I know this isn't en vogue, but if we wait we may get a written report with facts and recommendations in it that will help everybody.

I'm curious about the timeline of these radio calls. I find it hard to believe that they knew about the NOTAM yet failed to actually check their clocks before takeoff. I wonder if they saw the vehicles on the runway and that clued them into the mistake. Maybe by the time center questioned them they had a chance to look at the NOTAMs and come up with a quick defense.

That doesn't make any sense. Brickyard took after them and the tower was still closed. So that means Southwest departed before 0545. Also, the ops vehicle on the runway called tower after the takeoff and tower responded that they were not open yet.

It's been anything but quiet as of late. They have been pretty forthcoming with details of recent screwups. This is a change from the days past where they went completely dark.

S happens. No one was hurt. Pilots will be spoken to. SWA pilots are the best 737 operators in the business.
When stuff gets real, I’d trust an experienced SWA 737 crew over literally anyone else on the planet.
Anecdotally, I know more than a few ATC personnel. The baseline assumption is no one GAF as long as there isn’t a loss of separation (this is not legal advice).
“Humankind cannot bear too much reality”. Or scrutiny. There is no perfect flight.
Amplifying tiny errors like this on a public forum doesn’t help anyone in our profession.

Good example how the process works from ASAP review through the SMS recomcmendation(s). The ERC makes recommendations for a policy, process and procedure, for example, that dispatch will list applicablet NOTAMs on the signature page of the paperwork. A result of the SMS report would direct the Training Department to design a course segment, during initial and recurrent, which emphasizes procedures operating to and from non-towered airports.
The old saying goes.... procedures and regulations are written in blood.
