Sure I have. But if you pick up more, you make more. You don't make more by flying faster between 2 airports, which was what the poster was implying.

If they are a high time flyer, they are making more money becuase they are picking up extra work. How does the pilot that just flies their schedule make more money by flying faster between 2 airports? Every airline has some type of limits on how much they can fly in 168 hours or 28 days. That's not specific to SWA.

Thats been in the contract for a long time. It's not the reason that under blocking generates additional income possibilities.

If the buffer is 98.3, and you fly slow and the trip you want puts you at 98.31, guess what your odds are of being awarded that trip?
Now fly fast and that trip you want puts you at 98.29... See how that works?
Flying faster allows you to pick up more. Bottom line. His statement is correct.

Because flying faster may keep you legal for that next open time trip by keeping you under the block time buffer. Thats how.

soo explain why they blocked out 10 early ???? How was this an incentive to “save block”…. And who gives a Fack about NOTAMAN when it’s on the AWOS/atis/ASOS…(whatever GA guys call it)….. just a plain old POOCHSCREW ….. but it has nothing to do with our schedule culture…..

They were aware of the runway closure and it was broadcast on the AWOS. Saving time has long been a Mantra at SW. It's built into their pay system where reducing block can increase pay. It's in the DNA of the airline.
Shortly after SW started operations at ATL I watched a Southwest jet pull out ahead of us from ramp 4 or 5 after being told to go behind us. I was moving along about 10 knots as there were 12 to 15 jets ahead of us. Ground gave them a short rebuke to which they replied they were sorry. They then said "We can take a intersection departure from J and are ready for a immediate"! After a pause ground control came up and said, "You're not from around here are you"?
Maybe it's time for a change in the pay system and agressive enforcement of the Boeing recommended taxi speeds of 10/15/30.

It’s exactly as SailingFun states……rushing is indeed built into the DNA of the pilot group, especially the ones that have been around longer.
That has fortunately become less and less of a “thing” over time but it is still very much a “thing”. Go ride some jumpseats of other airlines and then come ride a few of ours. Then let’s revisit this conversation.
