Ive had to make the choice to get a hotel after a PM instead of driving for 1.5 hours home. Often. If you are fatigued, go out. It’s not worth a flying or driving risk.

It's easy to recognize when you are acutely fatigued and to call out. It's the chronic fatigue driven by our routine schedules that creeps up on you. It's inherent in the system and can't be avoided.

I don't even give it a second thought. If I am sleepy and notice it, I am calling out fatigued. There are no medals or extra points for proving you can complete the mission and tough out the fatigue to get the job done; however, there are very steep consequences when you get it wrong. This industry is a safety-leaning one, and more pilots should be cautious. I recently flew with a captain who was usually an AM'er but picked up this PM flight. They verbally stated they had only gotten four hours of sleep that night, and we were not landing that second day until nearly midnight. This, to me, is lunacy, and the fatigue started to show quickly. There is ZERO risk to calling out; if you are on your flights, they pay you; if it's before your trip, you burn a little sick time.

One of the more ridiculous concessions last contract was giving up premium pay if you call in fatigued or sick on a premium trip, which incentivizes flying fatigued.

Last time I was rerouted into a fatigue call, it cost me over 12 tfp (around $3k). They expected me to fly a full day on the 3rd day of a PM trip, after getting to the hotel at 0400 the morning before. It was "legal".......

It's happened to me at least 4 or 5 times since the last contract was ratified, but that was the most heinous.

NOTAMS, as difficult and unpleasant as they are to read IT'S GOT TO BE DONE.
A good dispatcher would have also highlighted this in the **NOTES** section of the release.

Agree with that.

And there by the grace of God I go........

But a reality is, at this stage of the game, things like that should have ALREADY been learned.

Whether post PPL and being dumb, getting the 100$ hamburger, CFI'ing, flying checks, UPT, what have you.

Elaine, we're going to have to come in pretty low to land this thing.

Is that difficult, Ted? Sure, it's difficult.

Coming in low is part of every textbook approach.

It's just something you have to do when you land.
