hey now, don't forget about us PR homeys too. Proud member of the "Nope, not 'born' here...nope, didn't 'immigrate' either, you're getting colder..." club. The mountain came to us, the progeny of the literal people those ghastly Insular Cases were written about 120 years ago. That was my great grandfather they were calling an ungovernable coconut head, and for whom extending American constitutional protections would be considered as moot as handing a chimp an alphabet book. Ah the SCOTUS... let me digress here before I drop my already feigned pretense of civility about the topic.

Recommend Daniel Immerwahr book on the macro topic: How to hide an Empire. It provides imo with some Anglo-digestible context to help the typical US "mainlander" understand blind spots wrt OCONUS history and cultures. Apologies for the drift; now back to our regular programming of the grey-collared help cosplaying airline CEO.

Geez….I come here to have a civilized discussion on the merits of the Miata and instead I get three pages of “this”.

Deleted because the truth would hurt a lot of feelings.

Revisionist history is real. There is no meanness or malice in reporting what really happened. Miatas violate everyone, so there is common ground in these discussions.

Outsider looking in. What takes so long for Southwest to start red eyes? It sounds like they want more “aircraft”, so shouldn’t increasing aircraft utilization by doing redeyes solve that problem? It sounds like they have been talking about starting red eyes for years.

some of it was contractual work rules with different groups that needed to be ratified before they could do it. Now, they just have to pull the switch like with codeshares.

Resistance to change and institutional intertia were the biggest hurdles. You have to be on the inside here to believe how powerful a force that is. It's incredible. The other more physical hurdles are technology issues (for the last 50 years, the "southwest day", an actual term that people use here with a serious face, ended at 3am central time) and labor contracts. The contracts are done and I think the new dispatch flight planning software will probably be the last big step towards resolving the tech issue.
You're right, though, for an airline with an aircraft problem, the simplest way to get more aircraft is to use the ones you have. Strange that it has taken this long. I hate flying the backside of the clock, but some east coast commuters will eat it up.

Bahahaha. The simple answer is that it’s SWA doing what SWA does best.
