Ecactly! Not a religion! SWA folks constantly leg hump the culture. Yet I absolutely guarantee I destroy this guys earnings in every single metric. I get so tired of hearing “balance sheet” or whatever other dumb **** about AA. It’s not a hobby. We show up to work and make money, and there’s zero chance anyone who knows the contact at AA is behind, dollar for dollar and month for month. Will there be a day that’s not true, absolutely, but now, not a chance.
Never had a desire to work for AA after flying regional feed for them. Maybe it’s better now, but 10 yrs ago that place was a miserable place to be.
Had a UAL interview and gave them a TBNT since I’d just finished training here and had no desire to go through an interview/training again. I’d be in the same place I am now…a CA driving to work to fly a NB, but making less.
DL never called…apparently I wasn’t as qualified as the FO’s I was flying with who had 0 TPIC. Didn’t matter once I moved to DEN since I refuse to commute, so I quit updating my app.
Is Swa the best place to be? That’s subjective depending on your wants and needs. I don’t care what type plane I fly or where I fly it to as long as I’m making $ at work and have plenty of days off to do the things I want to do. Yeah, you’ll fly more hours here than the OAL’s. Probably won’t stay in as nice of hotels or get the sodium laced crew meals they get either.
For a lot of us WB is a fantasy unless you want to sling gear as a FO. Too many people hired since 2014 at the big 3 to have any kind of crack at the left seat of a heavy if you’re over 30. People can mock SWA all they want…I don’t care. I don’t need validation of my life choices from strangers and internet trolls. If we’re happy, WGAF? If you’re not happy, there’s plenty of choices right now that you can try something else.

Gee, think people have along face during BK? Or during a merger? Or going through both at the same time? That's what was going on ten years ago.
Comparing being a regional feed vs working at the major as A base for a comparison?
Ask the guys hired post 2014 how miserable they are? They're not. Online there's *****ing...those people are a tiny subset. Others shake their head at the online complainers.

I commuted on them and they treated me like dog sh!t every time. Just because your company sucks doesn’t mean you take it out on everyone else just because you can.
They’re the worst of the big 3. Only thing they got going for them is the pilot group is old AF so you’ll accrue seniority fast. Still not enough for me to ever work there.

SWA is a great touch and go carrier. Once you start Indoc update your application to an actual destination airline. SWA is also great for a practice interview before the interview and job you actually want if you’re lucky enough to have multiple interviews lined up.
Nobody wants to end up at SWA as a destination, but if Delta, American, and United deem you unhirable SWA isn’t a bad place to hang your hat.

Lmao here we go with the “cUlTuRe” gaslighting to why you “decided” to go to SWA. It’s the Big 3 THEN Southwest. Always an afterthought, nobody at AA looks back at what could have been at Southwest. Only Southwest pilots do that, I wonder why. Most of you are Big 3 rejects but won’t admit it. Enjoy busting your ass on the 73 for the entirety of your career.
This entire thread is only a debate because the OP would be driving to work at SWA verse commute by air. He will no doubt look back in 10 years and kick
himself for retreating to SWA when all his buddies over at AA are flying 6 legs a month on the Widebody averaging 20 days off, dozing for dollars, all at significantly higher pay rates.

The math is simple
AAL 83 credit v SWA 95
23m upgrade AAL 737 DFW
8 years 787 FO DFW
8 years left (age 65) 787 CA DFW
V
12 year SWA CA
current contracts- SWA wins by ~500k with approx 2.5-3yrs more time off based on avg line value.
That's what I did for my comparison in Aug 23 when I turned down AAL.
The goals are different for every pilot.
Wouldnt change a thing in Feb '24
ask again in 2030- who knows.
PM for a more detailed analysis/chart Data/thought process.

Those three weren’t hiring when I got on at SWA. Matter of fact they were furloughing and putting the contracts in the trash. It’s funny how the big 3 pilots are always nice when needing a ride. Walk through the terminals most can’t even look your way. It’s funny to see. Any of us can do the others job tomorrow. Maybe the hats are on to tight.
