Back in 2013 WN sumbitted a request to the FAA to change its hours of operation from the 0300-0259 to a 24 hour operation. It took the FAA until 2015 to deny their request. Next time you see AW or BJ ask them if a second or third request has/was been made.

I heard they sent in a request to officially change official aviation time from Zulu to Herb time. In their proposal they stated “….being the premier operator and the only investment graded air carrier in the United States the official time should be Herb time as the aviation world revolves around Dallas and our HQ”. They even proposed changing the pickle ball courts name into “Herb Time Meridian” and using the half court line as the official time zone marker.

The FAA ran into an issue when they approached ICAO in YUL with the proposal and they responded with “Who is this Southwest Airlines? Are they a new carrier?”

Day or night the trips are getting more and more exhausting with lengthy days and short overnights. Just anecdotally when I'm home for an extended period of time I usually sleep 6.5 or 7 hours a night. After the last two trips I flew I came home and slept 8.5 hours. Can only chalk it up to being exhausted after the type of trips we do. Hopefully they throttle back on the shoulder flying and the schedule gets to be a bit more reasonable.

Allegedly they are going to in 2024. I think redeye flying is part of that initiative.

I agree with you 100 percent. I don't fly a lot of AM trips, but when I do I feel like someone has taken me out back and beaten me over the head repeatedly. I am tired for two days after. PMs are not quite as bad, but they certainly have the potential to be.

I work really hard to elitt out of my 0135 mountain time returns to domicile. I am beat after most trips and don’t want to do a thing the next day. AMs are worse.

Our PMs seem to start earlier now and end later. I’ve been used every reserve block since I upgraded and it takes a solid day or two off to recover, especially when they do the PM to AM fliperoo.

I’ve had 7-8 unused days since May. Everytime they’ve done the PM to AM swap I’ve called fatigued. Been awhile, so maybe they’ve learned to put those on the AM guys or just not give them to me.

This group in general needs to be ok with calling fatigued. We are consistently put in situations that are unfair in terms of fatigue issues yet some people just push through.

Im not risking lives or my career because WN can’t run an operation.

I normally go to sleep around 12-1 am Mountain time. I can’t just wake up at 4-5 am my time because they want me to. They won’t listen to reason when they notify you so I go to the hotel, eat dinner, watch tv and then usually call them around 11 pm and say, “I’m fatigued, I told you so. I’ll be ready to go back to work in 10 hrs.” Only had them push on me once and the Fatigue SWAPA people said it was one of the most ridiculous things he’s ever heard on a recorded line. Lol.
