I’ve had several trips with reports after 1700 where I was rerouted to do a delayed flight and land at 0300, 0400, etc.
Lots of DEN trips have day 1 with reports around 2000-2100 to fly 1 leg to the west coast. I don’t like working past 0200 but I’ll take a 1-2 leg day with show times after dinner any day.

They cover last minute stuff in Hawaii all the time via cascading reroute. I think you underestimate the number of people at this airline who are willing to "help out", especially when it means making a little extra coin.
Every other airline flies redeyes from Hawaii with zero issues. Only one of them has a base with available reserves there.
Southwest just has to invent redeyes and then we are doing them.

I'm not all that worried about Hawaii... I think the company has done a decent enough job connecting Hawaii to the rest of the network without the redeyes.
I do think that in order to do redeyes right, we'll have to have the third reserve shift. Sure would be nice to have an extra reserve shift where the third shift covers any shoulder flying as well as any transcon redeyes. But yeah, Southwest will have to reinvent this and then strut around pretending they invented redeye flying.

I think (hope) the company knows that this is a big shift and is going to require a huge mindset shift from them if they want to execute it properly. True redeyes need to be flown as a single leg at the beginning or the end of the trip. I know that I am certainly not afraid to call fatigued if I feel like I am getting backed into a corner, and that sentiment is shared by most of us.
Once again, though, we are here discussing something that has probably been overlooked and won't make it into any new agreement.

Me too. And I definitely agree that our redeye protections are slim to none right now.

Unless I’m wrong with LCO, a redeye reroute would pay 200% above the rig. Someone is gonna see dollar signs and jump on it where others will call in fatigued.
