plus we actually have some cool people we work with that do neat stuff outside of work.
The problem kids are easy to spot and get a wide margin.

well I say hi and be friendly and see if there is anything I can do to help out. I find when we are all working as a team the day goes much easier and smoothly. This to me is accomplished by creating a report with other work groups.

That is where it stops, though, for me, and it definitely doesn't go beyond the end of the duty day. I used to come down and hang with the crew prior to Covid, but times have changed and people have changed with it. I much prefer my own company and the company of my cockpit cell mates to anyone aft of the bulletproof door. As I said before, I don't care what they do once the engines are shut down, but I don't want to be any part of it. We should be able to shut the IRS's and APU off and beat feet.
Their union is amateur hour and their employee group has a core group of older folks who are making it a career. For most of the FAs, though, this is just a temporary job. I don't care what their contract has in it and don't feel the need to compare or even discuss it with then. Sorry, it's just how I feel. You don't see any other airline pilot group waiting with bated breath for the details of their flight attendant TA. It's an odd southwestism.

Let’s not put the cart in front of the horse here. FedEx/UPS are mismanaged companies that thought the boom in 2020-2022 was a harboring of the future. They bet the farm expecting cargo to just continue to take off. They failed to understand market forces and the impact of 121 airlines cargo ops(WN moves UPS packages BTW on the west coast and Philly area, it’s nicely packaged up in standard sized cardboard crates I just moved 1K lbs of the stuff) the impact of Amazon leaving UPS and striking deals with Sun Country and HAL. On a side note how much you think FedEx is paying of that 250K bonus? Mucho cheaper than a buyout like UPS just paid out. Everyone else gets 150K but FedEx guys get 250K. Yup that’s what FedEx thinks of you, you are worth 100K to leave. Would make me feel like David Justice when he was traded to the As yet the Yankees were still paying 80 percent of his salary.
ULCC may be the canary in the coal mine or they could have issues because the model doesn’t work if it doesn’t grow. The utilization of the airframes is not enough anymore, why F9 and NK are pulling out of cities so they can add more depth to existing cities. It doesn’t work to take someone somewhere and leave them for 4 days till you get back to that city. Throw in the Airbus GT engine issues and you have 24 airframes a month on average out of NKs fleet. You no longer need as many pilots. Throw in the NK/B6 merger court case and all sorts of things are going to change in the ULCC world. F9 is shifting to home basing, will need less pilots and should save some money for them, though the utilization will remain low.
The truth of the matter is the majors are still trying to suck up any and everyone they can. United is going to increase domestic flying by 1/3 in the next 10 years. DAL is expanding westward and WN just ordered a bunch of new airplanes. We all know AA can not fill classes. Go look at corporate websites, those guys are making bank, 500K for a Bay Area G650 driver. 5K a day in pay for contract workers. It’s nuts right now.
Don’t lose the faith, we are still a hot commodity.
