I don’t know man as that was brought up and he stated it would be a complete rewrite of the code as it was set up as additional luggage, but they just added bag tracking so maybe they did it and are slowly working it in. If I pay money for a bag it better be able to be tracked.
Maybe they wait till the new CBA and turn that function on and BOOM they don’t have to worry about the cost of the CBA as the ancillary income more than offsets the cost. Then blame the pilots if passengers complain….that’s what I would do.

How many bags do we carry? Rhetorical question. It's a metric F ton. Even if we just started charging for the second bag on WGA fares, we would rake in some serious dough. The excuse that "we can't do it" is total BS. If they wanted to do it, they would do it. It would pay for itself in a day.
This company is so stovepiped and fiefdom oriented that one department has zero idea what another department even does on a daily basis much less is allowed to make a suggestion on how to change. See ground ops, flight ops, and inflight if you need an example of three departments that are completely dysfunctional in the way they accomplish anything together. It is why any change takes a miracle and about 5 years.

They absolutely need premium/assigned seating. That’s what revenue management should insist on; 8-12 luv class seats and paid assignments in front of exit rows that include 1 drink Get real galley carts and allow pax to buy food/drinks on the spot w/ SWA credit card. Wifi should be a daily rate.. our flights are too short to pay that much.
it’s not that hard but they are terrified to mess w/ a broken biz model.

Two bags fly free is a product differentiator that actually has value, unlike open seating. It’s been ingrained in marketing since the early days. I’d actually expand marketing to include golf clubs, surfboards, etc. They could add a $20 first bag off the belt option if they want to monetize it.
