Forget about CULTure. It’s a bu!!$h!t thing at SWA. Get out of the regionals as soon as you can but not for this place. Either that or come here and immediately apply to UAL, AA, or DAL. You’ll be far better off there.

New hires are finding that once they get on with SWA it’s a lot easier to get on with one of the Big 3 than from a regional, so it is a good steppingstone.

SWA is not a bad choice. Especially if you live in DFW area. Others are correct wrt the CULTure. Ignore that silliness.

We will be getting a contract soon and it will be good. (Might have to vote down a couple and or go on a short strike first but probably not.)

If we call first come on over and then keep your mind open for American. We are not a bad choice and you can make a lot of money here if you want to. Filter out a bunch of the well intentioned drama on this site. Most guys I fly with are happy here especially if they drive to work. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a “buy low” time for SWA in terms of getting hired here.

Best of luck!

As others have already posted, the swa culture of years ago is looooooong gone. Period.
It. Is. Dead.

Do Not come here expecting the world acording to 'Nuts!'
Gary Kelly monetized, leveraged, wrung every penny he could from the 'CULTure' so that his wall street buddy on tv would fawn all over him, and then Gary wiped his feet on it as he slid into Board of Director paid retirement.

swa is run by lawyers and bean counters just hoping bright young folks will join and be willing to accept a b.s. psychic wage & lower salary as they jockey for a cush do nothing VP job with a bonus.

All the above notwithstanding, the vast majority of captains are great to work with and I've only had to deal with a few Koolaid drinkers.

Definitely keep your apps open when/if you show up at swa.
Had I known how this place would treat its employees as it dealt with covid, the vax etc I would've kept on updating my apps after fininshing IOE.

What SWA Culture has become.

Why would anyone even consider "kulture" in this career? It's not the 60s anymore. You're not partying like a rock star on the overnight and you're certainly not going to be shagging some hot stus. Unless making "funny" announcements (lame) is worth giving up millions (literally) then by all means come on down. Don't mention that to your FAA doc as it's likely they will ground you on the spot for a mental issue.

I came here for stability and job security. Thought I was looking pretty smart when Covid started up but the illustrious C team proved everyone wrong.

I enjoy my job and the people. But please can this culture crap.

I’ve been here almost a year and can honestly say that there isn’t much culture here.. it’s all words and very little action. My last shop (OO) had a much better one.

Come here because it checks all your boxes and nothing else. I’ve personally enjoyed the time off and flexibility. This place will get better once the C2020 stuff is settled.

This is pretty spot one actually. I fly with great people, the FA's are generally pleasant to work with, but room parties and wild nights in the bar seem to be a thing of the past, which is fine by me.

I came for base and schedule flexibility which has been pretty awesome so far.

What is the current junior bases for the East Coast? I've heard BWI but wanted to see if that was still accurate and what some of the others are.

Also, how often are guys sitting around on reserve or are they regularly getting used? Can you pick up an open time trip on your reserve days?

Traditionally, reserve usage is high. Very little sitting around. Since reserve has a daily guarantee, this makes for some very well paid months when you’re on reserve.

As of today there is no mechanism to proffer for trips on reserve. That is something SWAPA has asked for in the new contract which hopefully would be implemented by the time you hit the line.
If not, the best you can do is set your preference to “fly” and hope for the best.
