Another dumb question: What are blank lines?

Just got the CJO, the morning after my interview Great group of interviewers who ran the process really well and made everyone feel relaxed and comfortable.

Blank lines are what every other airline call round 2. During round 1 you’re awarded a “blank line” which affords you the opportunity to bid several weeks later on a round 2 build up line from all the stuff that was displaced from round 1. Depending on seniority you may end up with reserve as well.

Everyone bids lines. Then after the lines are awarded, trips get dropped from pilots' lines for conflicts like FAR violations, Training, Vacation, etc... Those trips get dropped, chopped up, and recycled into new lines that you bid in "round 2" as SetMCT said. In addition to trips, there may be some reserve blocks added in as well. There are hard lineholders, reserve lineholders, and blank lineholders. The Hard lines and Reserve lines are awarded... then conflicts are dropped and then the Blank line's are bid on by Blank lineholders.

Of course, after the Blank Lines are awarded there will be conflicts as well for FAR's, Training, Vacation etc... but much less than the 1st round. The remainder of flying dropped after the blank lines are awarded is dropped into the open time pool.

by several weeks he means 6 days. Round 1 posts on the 11th of the month and Round 2 (blanks) open on the 17th, closing on the 19th and posts to your board on the 20th.

I believe you're skw, so blank is like a composite, but can be specifically bid for in 1st round, and then built out for 2nd round bidding. Some lines are complete lines without reserve, some with, and some mostly or all reserve. You can see all of these options once 2nd round bid info is released.

Welcome aboard, hopefully you'll be here just in time to see a new contract. Just my opinion, so take it as fact, but....the blank lines are really best in that top 30% or so. If you get the last 15-25% (at least in some bases) they are likely going to be reserve, and probably AM at that. So you may be better off bidding reserve and getting "the reserve you want" instead of "the reserve you get" on a low end blank line.

Part time. I bid and get the best schedules. I give away what I don not want, use ELITT, trip trade and phone. Also, financially independent at this point.

Default Bases and Flying

A little off topic, but how does the flying vary base-to-base? Trip length, legs, etc.
Is Midway mostly Midwest flying, or do you still make it out west? Thanks!
