I use it when I need to but also carry a few months of cushion just in case. I like to act like I am 25 sometimes and end up paying the price on occasion. You guys with zero sick banks give me anxiety, but to each their own. I certainly don't judge as it doesn't take much for me to pull the trigger on a sick call.

I'm sitting on around 700 in the bank. Enough to bridge the gap to LTD if I should need it and leave some extra for when I come back. I won't be retiring with a full bank.....be nice if we negotiate the ability to sell of some as we want like JetBlue.

I mean this honestly is the safest and most logical way of using the system, my problem is I just can't get to that number lol.

That's the obvious way....but for those who want to use it as an insurance policy against getting hurt (like tearing an ACL or breaking a leg)....you have to maintain some kind of balance. As you get older, you're more prone to going out on leave and until we get a CBA where the company foots the bill for (and including NEC) on disability...it is what it is. When we get a CBA where they do cover 100% of our disability, I'll likely start burning it down faster than I am now unless theres an agreement whereby a pilot can sell off sick time (with limits) monthly....like B6. I'm not retiring with cash in the bank.
