Yeah and the contract comparison comping out, while I am sure was just due to AA signing this week, felt like an ominous sign that something is coming.

Yup. I've been hearing this for almost 3 decades from folks trying to justify not demanding an industry average contract.

The jealousy this group historically displayed (and still displays judging by the annual wiener measuring contest in the salary survey threads) led to a CULTURE of begging for every penny while ignoring everything else that makes a major airline contract worth working for.
The true irony is that while we've always ignored (almost) everything but pay rates, with the exception of post 9/11, they've always been industry lagging. Also instead of making incremental improvements to our contract each time, we've typically given contractual stuff up to secure those industry lagging pay rates.

But hey! I can always work "just a few extra days" every month to make up the difference with those of my peers of similar seniority at OALs, which these days, are mostly wide body Captains. That's an extra week or so I'd have to work to make what they make, but at least we're still saddled with 1994 work rules.

I think you meant to say 1984 work rules.

They also stay at better hotels in a lot of cities, and pilots can't be JA'd. It's possible if you're willing to fight for it.

Highly recommend any SW pilot with less than 4 years to make the jump to AA now. Brand new contract that matches DL and UA. Widebodies and you'll work far less. It's sad what Southwest has become.

It’s sad AA settled for less than DL/UAL on QOL items.
