You obviously don’t work for SWA.

I have heard this rumor since I have been here, but I just can't get behind it. We do go to other cities in Mexico, I mean how could we not convert currency? Maybe I am wrong but this seems way to out there to me.

The other cities are leisure vacation spots that Americans are buying tickets to with dollars. Mexico City is not that kind of market.

no one in Mexico city could buy a ticket on sw.com
They couldnt use pesos to pay for it thus the only people we were hauling out of Mexico city were the one we took down there. I guess not enough frequency and travelers to make it worth it. The other places we go are more touristy and support the operation.
It was literally because they cant sell tickets in foreign currency.

Who still buys tickets with cash? Even in Mexico? Every credit card handles the conversion seamlessly.

Whack is correct. That is why we go to Hawaii we can accept Hawaiian dollars. We cannot convert pesos.. We might be able to convert Alaska dollars also, time will tell .

it’s the conversion from pesos to dollars to garebear’s schrutebucks that our software struggles with.

Currency conversion is only part of the story. Rapid rewards have to be converted from the transaction currency to dollars and back also.

Another feat that is somehow done by literally all of our competitors utilizing what I assume must be some sort of cray supercomputer with lots of reel to reel tapes.

Love when anybody asks about this in Dallas and they say they just haven't "switched it on" like they are playing some sort of 3D chess that we couldn't possibly understand.

We got around this in Costa Rica by establishing a ticket office there that can sell in CRC. We sell tickets to locals there through travel agents. Not sure why they decided to go that route.
