The push for DEI is starting to make sense
This is just a YouTube video so take it for what it is worth. If true, the reason we are seeing massive uptick in DEI around campus is not because of any woke ideology but more for the concerns of upper managements pocket book. I can understand that. If you offered me a couple mil to push something that doesn't help the company or bottom line I would be happy to jump on board spouting nonsense and disappear into the shadows when confronted.

A lot of it has to do with them saving money. Think about it. You go to the inner cities and ghettos to try and get people interested in aviation. These kids come from nothing so they would be willing to work for much less than the upper middle class white kid who grows up around other successful people. Or the kid whose dad is a pilot and knows how much sacrifice the career takes.
Not being racist or condescending to the kids who don’t have the luxury of paying cash for flight training or needing extra assistance, but I think this is what is happening.

Or you can work at Chipotle for $24/hr and smoke pot all day.

There are currently initiatives to introduce impoverished kids to aviation. I think it’s a great opportunity for them to see that high earnings are within reach to everyone that commits themselves to the opportunities that are available.

I was on a ski lift this winter with a college kid who quit being a substitute teacher to work fast food because it paid more.

You are being racist and prejudice. There are plenty of upper middle class kids that aren't white. And low income people aren't only black people. Since u wanna talk about "the ghetto". This country has plenty of black people that are upper middle class. And even some that have a parent that is a pilot. Wow imagine that! You make a lot of stupid assumptions in your post!

and when someone says "not to be racist" they are being racist and they know it. They are just trying to convince themselves they aren't

This was about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), or did you miss the OP? Please point to where you see ANY white people being grouped in the DEI trifecta ANYWHERE in any company. When the airlines talk about attracting people from diverse backgrounds into aviation, are they going to rural trailer parks or the inner cities to try this out? Like you said, there is every race included in what most would consider upper middle class, but are those “other” races the airlines are shooting for? No, they are not.
They will try and find the most obedient and grateful worker who is thankful they were able to climb their way out of poverty into the paradise land! This is not brain surgery man. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but the airlines are taking the long view with the DEI stuff.
