Default Hand Flying Aircraft?

Is there any specific rules to hand flying at Southwest? And if not, how often do pilots hand fly airplanes ay Southwest? I would imagine it does increase the workload a bit, but is there any specific SOP against it?

Thanks!

Captain must hand fly any approach requiring a HUD. Autopilot must be used in RVSM. That's all that comes to mind.

Not really. Autothrottles have to be off if you're hand flying. That's about it.

I typically hand fly to 18,000 feet in the climb and then turn it off once we are given vectors for a visual approach on landing. But I still enjoy flying the airplane. YMMV.

We only have to have ATs off when hand-flying in cruise, descent or approach. We can use them during takeoff, climb or GAs with the AP off.

How come the pilots at SWA set everything in the flight deck to zero before getting off the plane?

Because that's how it was taught at the Zoo and done in T-43.

Not everyone does. Always struck me as being “extra” as the young people would say.
