I typically hand fly to 18,000 feet in the climb and then turn it off once we are given vectors for a visual approach on landing. But I still enjoy flying the airplane. YMMV.
Ya’ll are afraid of the auto-throttles? That’s weird…

The only ones afraid of the auto throttles are the guys that write the procedures. They literally said that the risk of PIO goes up with them.

I guess we’re more PIO-prone than other airlines.

The pseudo vnav procedure we use because again, in a whole industry only we do it right.

There’s a whole lot of “weird” at SWA.

That is an understatement.

What is your pseudo-VNAV procedure? I'm wondering if it's like our pseudo-VNAV procedure.

I was going to post it but its literally so stupid and cumbersome I'm not sure I could do it justice.

Instead of hitting VNAV and letting the plane do what's programmed.....we have to go into the climb page and alter all the speeds/altitudes because of reasons.....It's asinine.

Yeah this place has a lot of those weird procedures for seemingly no known reason other than, because lol.

This place holds onto the old ways stronger than just about anyplace else.

And we do it at the busiest time just prior to or during push when we should be paying attention to engine starts and the push back, all to avoid the distraction of pushing buttons and setting speed at 1000’, when we could do the safest practice, industry standard and let vnav do the job.

Remember this when taking the safety survey.
