Town Hall 5/17
#2
Fwiw, if you missed this one you didn’t miss much. This town hall was about network planning and execution.
- Shoulder flying is going to continue although there may be some relief on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- They acknowledge attrition and are tweaking the schedule close in to accommodate for fewer pilots.
- They didn’t address much regarding the questions/comments about crew fatigue.
- The usual platitudes about growing to 1000 airplanes within 5 years.
- Somebody asked how we recruit pilots competing with the legacies, he basically said a contract would help. Dropped the word “recession” a few times.
- Front runners for the new domiciles are Nashville, St Louis, Kansas City. No new Florida cities because they’re worried about two crew bases being taken down by a hurricane. Should be an announcement this fall.
- Denver and Vegas will be the bottlenecks this summer due to runway construction.

Denver slays me. You would think with its Dr. Evil quasi futuristic design and relatively uncomplicated airspace, it would be a model of efficiency, even if an entire side of the airport shut down. No, it is terrible even on a good day. I have thrown up my hands so many times there with unnecessary atc shenanigans that I have pretty much just given up hope. I was in line to take off one day and they turned the airport around. I had to taxi 10 miles from 17R to 25 all the way back through the ramp. A few weeks ago they had one departure runway open in the morning. The line was doubled up all the way down the taxiway.
I would love to spend a month in their tower with a crowbar and the ability to make change.

“You know I’ve been here 18 years and I honestly can’t give you a good answer for that”.
Just remember, chaos is cash and I don’t know about you but my GAS meter doesn’t even register nowadays.
Max $ signs between report for the trip and release. The rest I could care less about.

Sometimes I wonder if a few of these mgmt groups aren't hoping for at least a small recession to help cover for their lack of forward thinking and mgmt. They think a good downturn/slowdown will produce a plethora of pilots and much less pressure to settle a contract.

recessions never last as long as a recessionary contract does. Everyone needs to stop thinking that it's ok to accept less because either we're in a recession or one is about to happen. The c suite doesnt negotiate this way and neither shall we. Heck the worst yr ever for SW and the c suite got the biggest bonuses ever.
