I used to joke about "it flew in, it'll fly out," but I didn't know it was actually a thing somewhere.

There is a lot more to it than that. The ground crews are trained and do a very good job of looking for and noticing items that are or could be issues on the aircraft. It has worked very well for 50 years, I have always been very impressed with the ground crews and how observant they are.

You know I like to dump on SWA as much as the next guy, and there are of course exceptions to the rule, but I've found they do a really good job. They even caught something that I missed once.

That depends on whether you win the midnight pickleball death match and are granted the leadership of the t-shirt design committee.

Back when Torti was still the Director of Training he told a Recurrent class that I was in that the FAA was looking into have pilots do a walk around between evrey leg. He then said that said if it happened it would be a Captain requirement due to the fact that most of the Senior Captains didn't know how to program the FMS and do all the other duties that the FOs had to perform in the cockpit between flights.

SWA Is the first airline working on and doing RNP
Autobrakes cost the company money
I could go on and on. The mentality fly it like a 200 will never die here .

Well I guess it would reduce annoying operational disruptions caused by things like worn tires, small bird strikes, scratched tail skid, etc.
But yeah, never took any plane flying without a walk-around done by a pilot.

Who do you fly for, flying around with bald tires, and always over rotating. I need to avoid getting on them .

I’ve always had confidence in the rampers that did the walk around and have had them catch something I missed, but have wondered lately if they always get around to doing it.
It could be some places are too understaffed to have the extra workload.
