probably because their ramp personal are not trained to do it. Our is and they and thepilots both still do walk around every leg now. And also the mechanics and pilots do one in a mx base.
its be one thing if only one group did them, the pilots, but its everyone. Seems redundant to me.
Either way... my new game is who ever forgets to call 1000' when PM does the next walk around.

And if the wx’s not permitting then I’m offering to get the fresh coffee from the terminal. Unless you’re a ph*****g weirdo and don’t drink coffee.

just some history for you folks about why there wasn't a walk around at SWA... back in the days of the legendary 10 minute turns in the early days of SWA, part of the way that was accomplished was by training ground staff to do a walk around instead of busy pilots during the 10 minutes. this was approved by the FAA and has remained that way for over 50 years at SWA... until now. apparently a growing amount of missed things like bird strikes and a ramp staff shortages causing late pushes because they are completing the walk around has led to us adopting pilots walking the aircraft between legs.

Look dude. We didn’t have to do no stinking walkaround on the -200s & -300s and we sure as $7it ain’t gotz no time for that on the :45-:60 minute turns we’re doing nowadays. What’s next? Assigned seating? Setting the actual missed approach altitude instead of zeros? Switching to local time instead of Herb time? Wifi that actually works?! Blasphemy!

It’s the ultimate in cringe-worthy behavior. Flying on other carriers with an ounce of class such as UAL or DLA is a breath of fresh air.

You make a reasonable argument. I try to do at least half of the pre and post flights on my trips. *WX PERMITTING* …….of course.

Walk around both Pre and Post flight. Also after the aircraft is returned to me after, let’s say a tire change. Prevents those embarrassing air returns due to a landing gear won’t retract. Found the Easter Egg Pin in the gear a couple of times. Bad weather??? Collapsible umbrellas are a must.
