I get it and agee.
There will always be a few outliers that ruin it for everyone. They should be punished individually.
Overall, I don't really care one way or another about the whole DEI thing. I was simply pointing out the hypocrisy.
My biggest concern is inadvertently "offending" someone and getting in trouble for it.
There are also definitely some folks out there fishing for a pilot DEI violation. It's mostly been FAs but I flew with an FO like that last year. They were constantly baiting me from the second I met them, but I refused to take it. We finally found some common ground and they lightened up a bit, but it was a long 3 days.

And before anyone wants to say to me “well you’re enabling the potty mouth types with your stance.” No, no I don’t. I don’t like it when people talk openly about others in a negative way. I don’t like potty mouth types who don’t know when to keep their mouths shut. I despise them just as much as the next guy because they are unprofessional, plain and simple. I don’t like being in the vicinity of anyone, regardless of their political stance, religious beliefs, etc. who likes to denigrate other employees. I’ve always believed in and followed the golden rule.
But the hyper sensitive, hyper offended society we live in now has everyone walking on eggshells around each other, and it’s blatantly obvious.

Here's the real problem. Most people severely overestimate their ability to be funny. True comedy is a rare skill. What most people do is reenact what they learned from others who were actually funny. A true comedian can say something that goes right to the line of being offensive but delivers it in a way that gets you on their side rather than excluding you. That skill requires you to read your audience and have some capability to experience empathy. The kind of person whose blood pressure rises when they hear DEI generally lacks the ability to relate to people outside of their comfort zone... which makes them a bad comedian.

DEI is corrosive. As evidenced by our degraded culture. We use to all put on our uniforms and we were the same team. One team rowing the boat the same direction for the same reason. This is no longer the case. We are not only being told but instructed to see our fellow employees differently. We are not SWA pilots anymore. We are black pilots, or gay pilots or female pilots. We don’t have SWA flight attendants, we have gay flight attendants, or flight attendants of color. We have badges, stickers and flare issued by the company to signify our new declared group within our culture. DEI does not celebrate diversity, it hyper focuses on our differences. It tells us our fellow employees are not of our peer group but rather of some other group for which we must recognize. We had a pilot some years back that went through gender transition at a time when no one had. You all that have been around no who I’m talking about. Every conversation around this individual went like this. “Have you ever flown with (*****), she’s a great pilot. No one forced pronouns, and everyone recognized ability over identity. I’m sure this individual heard and saw everything because of the time but everyone saw them first as one of us. This would not happen today. “The Golden Rule” they speak of has been mandated out. How do you treat everyone as you want to be treated when you are bombarded all day and every day with messaging that says you must see them as different from yourself? I’m not sure what the answer is but we all have one thing in common, regardless of our outside life- our uniform. That’s where our focus should be, not what’s under it.

Regardless though, the fact that everybody knows about what cairns and talks about her is actually a good indicator that we COULD use some DEI training.
