I will say the ETOPS flying we did was really nice. Like a completely different airline. I did LAX for almost a year, and if I didn't live in Florida, I would have kept doing it. If you live in LAS/DEN/PHX I would consider it.

Living in base, I’m not interested in commuting for 6 mos when I can wait a month and hold my base. If and when DEN becomes ETOPS, I’ll bid it for sure.

This really shouldn't even be a question. F9 will most likely have a faster upgrade, but whether you can get that faster upgrade in PHX is another question altogether, thats assuming F9 keeps PHX as a base long term. I see no reason why they wouldn't, but WN certainly isnt going anywhere in PHX so to me, that is an important consideration. Long term, you will make more at WN, have better schedule flexibility and more will go into your retirement. Not to mention the regular plan health insurance. Downside is the 737 is slightly less comfortable than the bus, but I wouldn't let that be a consideration.
I was not an F9 guy, but I did work for NK and I can assure you WN is better than NK even with our current issues. We should have a contract in the next year which will make this an even easier choice.

I love all the southwest guys and gals I run into and have some really close friends working there. Nothing but respect for the pilot group. It was on my short list for most of my career. I got hired at NK in 2015 and am a mid level (48% in my base/seat) captain in base. My very close buddy got hired the same year as me at southwest and is still an FO and his options are either remaining an FO in Florida or commuting to reserve in OAK as a captain or maybe getting an upgrade to the east coast to sit reserve as a commuter. So yeah on a peer to peer basis I’m not sure if it’s as cut and dry as you’re making it out to be. Again I’m sure I’d be happy at SW but things aren’t terrible at other places and some would argue that depending on when you got hired they may actually be better.
