Default Hiring Howgozit…uh oh…

Published hiring plan for January’ 23: 212

Final numbers for January’ 23: 171

Deficit: -41 pilots.

That’s about a 20% shortfall from
published plan.

Extrapolated out, that will put us over 400 short of plan for 2023. You can’t spin the seniority list SWA!

poopoo out.

I'm not sure why anyone puts any belief in the rumors coming from the Bobs in the LEAD center. The MO up there is them talking out of their ass, then having to walk it back 6 months later due to "unforeseen circumstances". Feel free to bookmark my post here for future reference when they tell us due to uncertainty in the economic climate, they've had to adjust their new hire numbers from 2000 to 800 and our aircraft deliveries have been slashed in half. Rinse and repeat.
I posted the above back in Sept. Just waiting on the email with the excuses to validate.

Wow. 41 is not insignificant. I am sure the end of the year accounting is going to get ugly.
From what I am hearing, the secret is out that the quickest way to land your dream job at a legacy is to get hired from your regional by Southwest instead of waiting for the flow.

nothing against this theory, but you merely need to fog a mirror to get hired by any airline right now. You accept your first class date available at any airline and hang there until you get a class at your airline of choice.

There’s a lot of improvements needed around this place, and for the the sake of my very low seniority number I hope they make their hiring goals. Let’s not pretend however that the cross pollination we are seeing isn’t happening almost everywhere. It’ll happen again once the UPS/FDX begin hiring again too.

Not justifying missing stated goals by any means, but even if they miss by 30%….that’s still more than we’ve ever hired in a given year.

I’m guessing attrition will continue as long as the pilot market remains what it is and the incompetence of HDQ remains at its current level. I’d also bet that they’d fill classes easier and be closer to their stated goals should we get a new CBA sooner than later. VP’s only know numbers and this is good for getting a TA we deserve that meets or exceeds OAL’s.

While I do agree with a lot of what you are saying, we have become a stepping stone to better things. We used to be the destination. I would like for us to be the destination again. It isn’t going to happen unless we knock it out of the park in this contract.

Looks like the MSL grew by 154 net. 4 classes of 44 each implies a capacity plan of 176. So 22 short of that plan?
