Thank you all for the great replies and advice. I do have a few more hopefully simple questions.
1. Given I want to get to PHX, how long would that take on the FO side and how long again to upgrade there? How about LAS, OAK for the CA side?
2. Are the projected hiring numbers going to hit there mark this year?
Thank you again for all the help and advice.

2. Almost certainly not. They’re already behind and there is just no slack to catch up. Also as our contract starts to lag and other people get their number one choice, new hires and recent hires will jump ship just like they do from other places.

If you want to sit reserve and NOT get called, then go AA. Southwest uses their reserves a lot. Probably 80-90% utilization. I am a fairly senior FO and bid reserve occasionally because I drive to work. Over an entire month (12-14 days of reserve), you might get 1 or 2 days of not being used.
With that being said, SWA reserves can sometimes make more money per day than lineholders because their schedules get screwed with more. This can lead to premium pay for various reasons (move-up, later block in, etc). But lately it seems like "everyone is on reserve" as soon as they check in, so YMMV.

Most are getting into DAL after 4 months on the line. Time to hold a weekend line is a moving target. Say sometime after 9 months or so. Free parking at headquarters with a shuttle that leaves twice an hour or $5 a day at the parking spot.

Reviving a thread here but am in the same position as the OP with CJO’s at both. I’d be a commuter at both airlines and will be a commuter for the better part of a decade if not my entire career. Have no desire to do the WB flying at AA, would probably bid the bus, and hope to retire in the left seat. I’m not one to chase money but I definitely chase QOL in the form of days off as a commuter. Any input on which airline would offer the most days off without having to go pick up premium just to make a livable wage?

Unless AA gets a contract that changes min days off, you’ll have more days off at AA but might have to commute on one side of each trip depending where you live, commute to and flight schedules.
You’ll have better seniority at AA on the NB and upgrade quicker.
I’d go with whoever has bases where you want to live or have an easier commute to if QOL is your end game. If you live in S. FL…go to AA.

Hard to make over your line at AA. You can swap trips around via trip trade with other pilots or company at SWA.
