It’s just too bad we have people like yourself who do nothing but **** on the young guys who come on this forum to ask serious questions, get as much info as they can about a career decision, etc. All I know is the tone of this forum and the guys I fly with on the line are almost like two different airlines. That’s not to say SWA is a **** show with respect to this contract, but damn it just gets over the top on here.

FWIW I’m not trying to be an a hole like many on here. I’m just being honest and giving my observations. I spend very little time on here and this is usually why. The forums are nothing but snarky remarks from people who have a differing opinion or experience than you. It’s like some sort of political forum.

The fact is and has always been that, unless you seriously bust your butt, a career at SW is worth considerably less than one at a legacy, and likely always will be.

Want to never see the place and have to go to the box to maintain landing currency? This isn't the airline for you then. Want to fly widebodies? Nope, not here. Want the ability to throttle your pay/schedule as you need? You can have 18-19 days off here, or you can work 18-19 days if you need cash. Some months you can bust your hump, others you can take it easy. I've been able to max out my retirement the first full year on the property and ever since then because I hustled and live in base.
Bottom line, it really depends on what you want in life as an airline pilot.

Lots of people here are jaded and mad about the contract. Some are utterly frustrated with the past. Some are envious of the choices of the today's generation.

How much BS do you have to endure to get to that point (and beyond)?
Other than 5 vacation weeks, getting lines that have a few less workdays per month, and sometimes even a holiday/weekend or 2 off, congratulations(!) you're already enjoying what it's like to be senior here.

Not counting 2001-2003, 2019 and 2020, how long does it take to sit reserve and never get called here?

So, my schedule as a junior FO about twenty years ago was, in many ways, better than my schedule today. Does it take about twenty years of BS at OAL’s to get to this same point I’m at now at SWA? Or could I do it in less time?
I guess I can thank the arrival of the 800’s combined with the effects of FAR 117 and SWAPA’s and the pilot group’s failure all this time to mitigate any of that for why that is the case.
I don’t know. Maybe if I were in my 20’s or 30’s and I’d come straight from a sh***y regional or some other cr***y gig, maybe SWA overall would be a step up and I’d have the energy and fresh outlook to Pollyanna-Ize the situation here. But I didn’t and I’m not, So, there you go.
A problem with so many people who don’t like it here leaving and so many sensible people not coming here to begin with is that we’re left with the crowd who’d rather eat the lemon by rationalizing how it’s not so bad compared to an Allegiant pilot or a ramper or a public school teacher and how “just a little hustle” evens it all out and how we make “plenty” or “enough” instead of making it into lemonade by holding out for a true ILC.
Yes, we will pass another lagging turd. Because we allegedly have better schedules than an Allegiant pilot, money doesn’t really matter that much (we make “enough,” remember?), all the other stuff is kind of ancillary and can be fixed “next time” anyway, and enough people who know better have left or aren’t here at all.
