It’s too much liability for the company to assume, and in this day and age you can never be too careful. Wheelchairs passengers are free to pre board and sit where they like, but they should have to deplane last as it’s safer with more room and less objects in the way, and there’s a much greater likelihood the wheelchair pushers will actually be there with their chairs.

Ever notice how the people who obviously need a wheelchair usually have a system that works for them and wait til there’s plenty of room and plenty of assistance before they make their way off the plane, almost like they’ve done it before and aren’t doing it to scam the system?
good luck enforcing that

Make it an exit row. You’re going to have to move ABPs into that row if there’s a planned evacuation anyway. Make it easy. No preboards in row one.
I used to fly on Southwest all the time for corporate travel before I entered the airline pilot world (was engineering before that). Flying out of San Juan one day about 12 years ago and a line of more than 40 wheelchairs when I was supposed to be one of the first few people to board. I was furious and vowed never to fly on southwest again. And I haven't.

Well, that Puerto Rican diet is a b!tch when it comes to diabetes so you could understand all the obesity.

Now where the ph**k did I put my cafe con leche?!

perhaps, but can you imagine the subset of our flight attendants who power tripped over the masks now get to have the power to enforce people getting off the plane? I think a policy of forcing people who preboarded with a wheelchair to leave with a wheel chair would be a disaster.

yea, that’s true. Something has to change. Assigned seating would be the easiest but since we haven’t invented that yet, there’s no way an airline could do that and still make money.

the idea is you pay extra or accumulate status that is no benefit because of others scamming the system. That’s why they don’t want us to board early because the a-lister getting to the gate on time ends up losing his preferred seat because the plane is half boarded.

assigned seats would solve this and many other problems.

We could just board the wheelchairs with the families.

They should do it like grocery stores where you stick a coin in to get a shopping cart, and get it back when you return it. Only make it $100, and it goes directly to the wheelchair attendant if you don't get in the chair.
