wow
There is no sane reason to have more than needed to cover the elimination period to LTD, unless you are planning to use it all right before retirement. But my gut tells me some of those clowns take pride in the fact that they will p!$$ away 1600 hours of pay for Kulture. Mine is paid out at up to 100% provided you stay long enough and retire old enough (up to 700 hours, 25 YoS, retire at 65. I'll get 75% if I stay till 65 because I won't hit 25 YoS, 50% if I walk before 65). And I still don't have more than 200ish in the bank....

It is and will stay the way it is because math. The company knows that a fairly high number of pilots will leave with north of 1000 sick trips in their bank, which is a net gain for the company For every sick bank "zero out" type, there is their opposite number. Average it all out over the long run, and they are making money.
I personally don't care about a sick bank payout program. It's a sucker bet. I am happy with leaving accumulation and usage in its current form. I assume the new STD program will have some sort of elimination period that will also have to be covered.
The devil is obviously in the details, but kudos to SWAPA for getting the framework on this one right. Losing our current accumulation and bank system for a Delta style use/lose system would have been a net loss to the pilot group.

FWIW, you can use 10 TFP/month once you retire to keep health insurance for your spouse but at today’s rate that’s still $2456.40/month. Still doesn’t make sense.

Here’s another good reason..
Never fly for an airline that can’t figure out how to accept foreign currency!!! It’s really pathetic and this alone makes me want to go elsewhere. It just shows their narrow mindedness and lack of vision.

But decades old innovations are no longer innovations, they will be the archaic dinosaurs behind our fall.
There has to be innovation in passenger handling and services, IT and all ares of operations or this place is doomed.
The reality is these wouldn’t even be innovations, they would be the common sense approach to running an airline that everyone else is already doing. We need to get on par with everyone else before we can even think about innovations that are above and beyond.

They can figure it out. It isn't hard. They choose not to do it. Not sure which is worse.

Because once they turn it on, there will be expectations to utilize it; such as flying international and expanding. This isn’t something they have the vision or courage to pull off. So they just refuse to cross that bridge at all.

You all speak the truth and it’s been very cringy to witness this the last 10 years since I’ve been on “this side of the fence”.
I’ll tell you who else this drives mad…..our COO. Hopefully he gets cut loose to pursue what he wants to pursue once GK, BoJo and the archaic BOD ride into the sunset.

Amen
I think GK and his puppet are working to get the stock below 10 bucks a share , which should be soon enough. At that time he will be sent on his way by Blackrock.

Dramatic
Freak out
Two terms that have zero to do with my state of mind surrounding this.
Here are a couple of terms that describe what I am feeling:
Mistrust
Disappointment
Those of you who haven't been here a while are in for a treat. The loudest voices supporting this concession are the ones who think they have something to gain from it in the form of growth promises and a shorter drive to work in exchange for pay and QOL for the rest of us.
When in the history of this career has the promise to grow in exchange for contract items ever come to fruition? Now tell me how many times it has blown up in the pilots' faces. This is all about DC and California.
I am not assigning homework because that's lame, but ask someone who knows about how we got ELITT (vs plain LITT) and flying 800's and how that worked out for the pilot group. SWAPA has a rich history of screwing the many to help out the few. Anyone ever hear about how those Herb stock options worked out for junior pilots? Those guys must have gotten rich!
I know many of these items have been touched on by Slip and others on this very forum. How about no open time giveaway? Who did that help out? Reduced sick accrual for premium trips? The repeated attempts to shut down Lance Captain? I could go on and on.
