Only if you like wasting your time maybe. Good way to get your app thrown in the trash. Something about good attitude, humility, etc. Nobody is owed any job, even if the place you’re interviewing is currently a little bit of a dumpster fire.

Nope, its an entirely valid question. And if you throw that app into the trash after being asked such a question, then maybe you shouldn't be on the hiring board.

Maybe not "why should I bother coming here" which I doubt even happened (heck, I doubt that entire comment even happened), but "What does Southwest offer that would make me want to come and stay here, as compared with Spirit or Delta?"

We have culture , SWAG points and a good discount on employee parking for when you come to work. Also when you pay for your uniform, you can get the points on your credit card .

Tell me what other airline has that offer.

I got it from the interviewer on the panel. So if he lied…that’s one thing. We asked what bottom of the barrel type stuff they’ve seen and he mentioned that. Based on everything we were told…I highly doubt he’d have made it up.

No, the comment happened. Many in the current generation of pilots applying to majors and legacies have less than zero clue about what it took their interviewers to get to this point. Them strutting their stuff around like they're the cats meow and that any airline should be lucky to get them is off-putting, immature, and shows complete lack of awareness. I don't want them here. Not all of them are like that, but a good number are, and many are under the impression that they're in because APC or board of their choice says we're "desperate" and we only need applicants who can "fog the mirror."

I talk to my interview team buds after their week of interviewing is done. Man, there are some serious doozies, but they're holding the line, and I appreciate what they do, especially in this environment. As a junior captain, I REALLY appreciate what they do because I end up flying with these people when they first get on line. And so far, I've been very happy with the quality of people I've flown with, so I'd say that the interview team is doing their job well.

It must be a challenge to sift through and hire from the least qualified candidates in the last 30 years…or did I miss a time period?

If you think about it, that's kinda what they had to do pre-9/11. They probably still remember how.

It's not a problem until you smash a couple 757's into the runway or fly into a hail storm and have to start reporting hull losses. Thankfully, we don't have a green on green issue here.

Not quite so

upgrades where less than three years ,the legacies were over 10 . It was a pilots airline, the CEO made the pilots, feel like they’re on a pedestal, profit-sharing was pretty good.

HQ loved the pilots and actually respect them, unlike now where the CEO calls the pilots plumbers and has everybody in headquarters against the pilots . I could go on but it is disgusting to think what this place used to be versus now . This place really would be better if they just fired all the pilots

The GO thinks this would be a great place without pilots or fas. This is the Kelly legacy. Just what he wanted. Herb was jealous that pilot was the only job at SWA he couldn’t do. Heard it from his lips. But he was also the master at getting us to accept less than we were worth and dragged down the industry as a result. That was before my time. When I was hired SWA were the highest paid pilots including WB by bankruptcy default. We made money then and I want it all now. Stop accepting less than you are worth yessies! Pilot pay has never caused the failure of an airline.
