Considering SWA, have questions

It does sound like your trips in base suck. I never have that problem.

This isn’t the best or worst place to work. I’ve been at a few and the frontline employees are always what make the place. Operationally and contractually we’re in the Stone Age though, and that gets old. The ones who beat the “SWA can’t be beat” drum generally haven’t been anywhere else to compare with.
If I wasn’t past V1, or even if I was but already had the financial goals met I’d be looking at more conventional network carriers where I’d be more likely to upgrade and do real international flights.
In fact, I had an interview scheduled with AA just prior to Covid and rescheduled after, but had something pop up that forced me to postpone and they told me to reapply later, but now I’m here for the duration.

There’s 10,200 pilots. There are a handful of guys here that neg everything and make up 90% of the content.
Contract stuff is valid, but the rest is just an echo chamber of “my life sux/the grass is greener”. If it was that bad, they’d leave…but they don’t.
Enjoy every day, and fight to get paid. If you get down on your daily grind, the money means nothing and nobody has a better pilot group than WN.
Don’t let this forum get to you…its not representative.

As of 12/08/22, just over a month ago, according to them, he/she had an interview scheduled for the following week. Take what they’re saying from the perspective of either the brand newest new hire pumped full of training center kool aid or someone who’s not even at SWA yet and seems to be hoping to get here.
If either of those two scenarios are the case, bleedair isn’t even in the honeymoon phase yet. They’re in the first kiss, over-the-moon, euphoric, I-wanna-spend-the-rest-of-my-life-with-this-person phase. They haven’t even had their first argument yet with the object of their affection.

Yeah, and???
I’ve been in corporate longer than I can remember. I’ve hired plenty of 121 retirees and heard all the stories, and how much they miss that guppy now that they have to work for their money again.
I have no sympathy for a WN guy who thinks the job is too hard. I fully support getting paid and working the contract.
I’m just a proponent for enjoying life my friend. Its between your ears. There is no reason to dishearten new-hires. Its a great career, and a great company that is currently in a valley. Encourage them to fight to bring it back. The pilots have the control over their own destiny in that regard.
Ps - your assumptions are incorrect

For perspective, it rseems as though bleedair has only been at SWA maybe a few weeks at the longest. If so, they’re definitely not even out of new hire training yet. He/she may not even be here at all at this point. Maybe he/she has a class date.

Okay, which assumptions are incorrect? On Dec 8, when you said, “Interview scheduled next week,” were you speaking for someone else?
If you were speaking for someone else, then why, on Dec 6, did you ask, “you guys mind sharing quals? I’m wondering how I stack up.” That sounds like you’re asking a question for yourself about your competitiveness for a SWA interview.
Putting your previous posts together, then, makes it sound like you just interviewed last month.
Or, maybe you’ve been at SWA for years and were using the first person (“I”) to ask questions for someone else. Which, though odd, would explain, I guess, how my assumptions about you either being a new hire or not even here yet might be incorrect.
Then, I suppose, the question would be why did you feel the need to use the first person when you were asking questions for someone else? Never mind. That’s your business.

For those who think shoulder flying is going away, its not. Head of scheduling spoke with our class. He said there are no plans to get rid if it as they are trying to rebuild frequency in the network. Also redyes are coming.
floggings will continue until moral improves.
Uve worked at a few places that started out good but when their back was against the wall things went sideways real fast. All they cared about was moving metal and making money. Not the people, the contract or the FAA. There is hints of thai happening here. The only thing they seem to give notice to is the FAA. The company needs to get their act together real fast and have a reality check or they will soon find themselves in the middle of a mass exodus or an accident.
To the OP... if you're going to move to a base. Get ahold of some bid packets and look at the trips in the bases you're considering. The trips do vary by base. As to where you go and legs/day and times.

Yes - I have my personal reasons for WN.
No - I’m not a kid with wide eyes.
Every carrier has the same gripes. The difference is it used to be so much better when Herb was running things. Crying to each other online every day does nothing other than ruin the mood.
Put the energy toward positive education regarding the contract. If you run off all the good talent, how does that make your life better?
Since you seem to be investigating me….let me ask you:
Do ya think focusing 24/7 on the warts of your job online, then questioning FOs daily on the contract…basically having your neg toward your job top of mind all day every day - might affect your outlook?
Come work for me for a month. I’ll give you a whole nutha perspective. (And we have a great time!)

If that’s the case, fine. Just be upfront with that perspective when you’re attempting to invalidate the experience of people who have been here for years. Maybe try approaching it from the angle of, “Though I haven’t spent a day as a SWA pilot yet, I feel like it sounds like a great job. That’s my perspective from the outside looking in.”
I’m sorry that, from your description of your current job, it sounds like real work - at least compared to what you perceive from your outside perspective of how much easier and better the flying at SWA is like.
I hope you find what you’re looking for. I’ve flown corporate so I have an idea of what you’re getting at. Aside from the military, corporate flying was the most enjoyable for me. But I’m not in your shoes so I can’t fully understand what you’re trying to express. I’m sure your flavor of corporate flying is different than what I did.
