There seems to be a lot of negativity about life at the modern SWA. What do you all say to this scenario:
Currently a captain at a ULCC. Over 50% seniority and climbing. Said ULCC closed my domicile and now I’m a lifelong commuter (moving isn’t an option for a long time). SWA has a domicile in my hometown.
Stay a captain and slug it out commuting, or attempt a move to SWA and enjoy the sweetness of driving to work?

Yes on SAV and of course on walking the line. Could have been a different forum that is now defunct...thought it was this one. My username was turn&pull. Applied and got turned down here in 2001 and was using the forum actively around that time...maybe the precursor to this...who knows.

And no, this job is not as bad as some would make it seem here. It's actually great. We just need a new contract in a big way and it is way overdue.

It definitely has me considering SW. I’ve done more on the back-side than I care to think about. Beats me up.

I’ve done them in the past so I do have experience with them.

Currently it’s only been mentioned but I can’t remember seeing anything “official” about it. That said, we have a lot of shoulder flying with 0400-0430 check ins for AM flyers (which for me may as well be a red eye) and later finishes of 0100-0130 (if ontime) for PM flyers. Red Eye flying in some capacity is a logical next step to grow flying. In the last leadership briefing I sat thru a couple of days ago with VP Flight Ops he said Red Eye flying as making sense for Central America markets which depend on the red eye for business traffic (however we currently don’t do that flying nor accept foreign currency) and mainland Hawaii traffic to connect people further east which is in our realm. With our current staffing (my opinion is we would be short if red eyes were a prominent thing), IT troubles including accepting foreign currency, as well as a myriad of other tech and labour issues (yes on SAV!!), in my personal view, they would need to sort all that out first prior to any true red eye flying. Also, most maintenance is done during the few hours of downtime for the aircraft so they would need to plan that as well. I’d put money down that it’s coming but how soon is anyones guess. Never say never but that’s how I see it currently.

it’s as official as you consider investor relations presentations to be official, but in addition to our current AM/PM schedules. I can’t see them doing away with that, rather just adding a 3rd shift. And no mx is done overnight at our non-maintenance stations so that’s really a non-issue.

With our current issues, I think “speeding up the tempo of the operation” would be off the table for the time being. For what it’s worth (zero), we were told at training that the company wants to move away from the shoulder flights.
