No joke: on a PM, I was so short on time after working out, that I tried to inhale some food I brought along with me in my room before lobby time while getting ready. Well, I was so rushed trying to scarf down my food to make van time that I literally almost died. Food got lodged in my throat, completely blocking my airway.
I panicked. Thought about stumbling out into hallway so the maids might see me and call 911. After about 60 sec, by the grace of God, I was basically able to Heimlich myself over the toilet. A huge bolus of food just belched out, along with gushes of stringy, slimy saliva all over the toilet and bathroom floor. Eyes were bloodshot after with tears and snot streaming out of every facial orifice. Scared the crap out of me. Stupid, I know. Learned a lesson.
There really isn’t time, at least on my typical overnight, to do everything 19-year captain says he/she does on their overnight. Maybe they consider a workout a couple of sets of push ups in their room or something. That would save a lot of time.
I’ve learned I kind of need to choose one activity per overnight: eat a decent sit-down meal and enjoy it, work out, or have some time to relax. I can only do one. There’s almost never enough time on a SWA overnight to do more than one. I usually choose working out.

Ex-freakin-actly! I barely have time to get a legit work out on an overnight, let alone get a nice leisurely meal in.

There seems to be a lot of negativity about life at the modern SWA. What do you all say to this scenario:
Currently a captain at a ULCC. Over 50% seniority and climbing. Said ULCC closed my domicile and now I’m a lifelong commuter (moving isn’t an option for a long time). SWA has a domicile in my hometown.
Stay a captain and slug it out commuting, or attempt a move to SWA and enjoy the sweetness of driving to work?

If so I’d also apply to AA and UAL also. You upgrade quicker at either of those two so the pay cut wouldn’t be as drastic and for as long.

No, it didn’t exist back then. According to the Airline Pilot Central - About Us page, APC didn’t exist at all until 2005. The APC Forum looks like it started up in February 2005. And it appears the SWA sub-forum wasn’t created until 2011.

Was a regular here back in 2001-2004 under a different Username...tried to resurrect it but couldn't even remember the email I used to use. I've lurked a bit since but decided to try and put forth an alternative view to a lot of the negativity about SWA. I definitely believe there is a lot that needs to be fixed here and we obviously need a new contract and I will admit, after the Christmas meltdown I don't blame any of my F/O's from pulling chocks and going elsewhere. In fact one F/O I flew with this last week is going to Delta....here for less than 6 months, and another F/O I flew with this week said 2 of his classmates are leaving, 1 for UAL and 1 for Delta. Don't blame them at all. Moral is the lowest I have ever seen it and maybe we can't pull out of this death spiral....but I have to believe that we will. We are a huge company with lots of money...I'm still Bullish and I still have a great time when I am at work flying with some great First Officers.
I understand you can’t remember the email you used, but what was the username you used back in the aughts?
