I worked for a regional for 10 years and witnessed scope erosion all thanks to ALPA. No, I never applied to AirTran…didn’t feel like taking pay cut for almost a decade. Probably would’ve been here sooner had I applied and been hired though. Same with CAL/UAL or NWA/DL. Hindsight is a b$&@!

The logo of the union doesn’t matter. ALPA National isn’t negotiating the contracts for United, Delta, or any of their other carriers. Their elected reps, MECs and NC’s are. So “switching to ALPA” just changes the logo on the shirt and lanyard. You want real chnage in the union? Vote for new leadership, not a new logo.

Congratulations. Almost 19 years here at old Southwestern Trailways and I still really enjoy my job. To me, Southwest is the healthiest job in the business. With our AM/PM schedules you can stay on the side of the clock you prefer. I love that our overnights are NOT long. I prefer to work hard, have enough time in the hotel to work out, have a couple drinks, a nice meal, a couple hours of TV, go to bed and get up and do it again and make it home in 2.5 days to my wife and kids. I will leave the 30 hour+ overnights and varying work times to those more qualified than I. Work hard...Make lots of money...and go home to my family. That is My Southwest.

Yeah, after 15 years of world wide long haul flying and spending countless hours in hotels and $h!thole countries I couldn’t agree more. I’d rather work hard on short haul for 2-3 days and go home see the family and do what I want.
He didn’t say that there isn’t major improvements need in DAL and our CBA.

Was a regular here back in 2001-2004 under a different Username...tried to resurrect it but couldn't even remember the email I used to use. I've lurked a bit since but decided to try and put forth an alternative view to a lot of the negativity about SWA. I definitely believe there is a lot that needs to be fixed here and we obviously need a new contract and I will admit, after the Christmas meltdown I don't blame any of my F/O's from pulling chocks and going elsewhere. In fact one F/O I flew with this last week is going to Delta....here for less than 6 months, and another F/O I flew with this week said 2 of his classmates are leaving, 1 for UAL and 1 for Delta. Don't blame them at all. Moral is the lowest I have ever seen it and maybe we can't pull out of this death spiral....but I have to believe that we will. We are a huge company with lots of money...I'm still Bullish and I still have a great time when I am at work flying with some great First Officers.

Maybe his boat’s in the shop, and he just discovered this new fangled internet thing? Though at 19 years, he’s probably still an FO hunting for that elusive summer vacation.
