Pre Board

I'm sure it's because of the lack of assigned seating. Fake a disability and you get to pre-board, and get your pick of seats ahead of the crowd without buying an upgraded position. Every flight I see several wheelchair attendants leaving with empty chairs after the flight unloads, as these passengers that needed wheelchairs to get down the jetway are somehow able to walk back up completely unassisted at the end of the flight. It's a jetway miracle!
Had 108 preboards on a flight. Not wheelchairs just people who needed extra time. When the A listers and business people boarded there was almost fist fights as all that was left was middles in the back.
I'm more and more in favor of assigning seats. Yesterday we waited almost 20 min for spinners to find a seat.

Assigned seats would solve many problems.
Turns would be faster, no spinning for seats and bags, there would be no “what seat am I” questions, priority pax would get on earlier, fewer fake wheelchairs, problem pax and medical emergencies would be identified by seat number, better bag matching when you have to check carry-ons, and so much more.
I’m actually surprised TSA and FAA let us get by without being able to identify pax by seat. I’ve had unruly people get off the plane and walk past CSRs and LE without identifying themselves because they really don’t have to.
Not to mention, it would help to alleviate some of the death-by-PA.

Assigned seats certainly have some advantages, but faster turns is definitely not one of them. It's amazing how long it takes people to find their assigned seat. There was actually a Mythbusters episode on the fastest way to board an airplane and it turned out to be open seating.
