Nonrev boarding priority
#2
I believe if you’re non revving out of uniform you are supposed to board when your boarding number is called. In the past I’ve offered to help with wheelchairs to board after preboards and then saved seats for my family.

It’s all dependent on what Ops Agent you get. Some are awesome and have let us down after pre-boards, some in whatever boarding group we were assigned.
I agree with Zap…if you help, you get on. FAs are fine with saving seats for family as long as it’s not exit row.

Side question about 121 passenger ops....
I was riding SWA on a ticket in uniform and the gate agent flagged me down to preboard - I was grateful and preboarded. Once on board I took an exit row seat and the FA said I couldn't take the exit row because I was a preboard. So, that is a thing?
Note - I normally don't positive space in uniform - it was just more convenient.

Whenever I traveled with my family as a non-rev I would sign up for the jumpseat. Then I would preboard as a jumpseater then save my wife and daughter a seat. I even did it if the flight was booked full and I knew that I would be on the jumpseat.

So you technically were not a pre-board but the ops agent thought they were doing you a favor. FA assumes you are a pre-board, and there are restrictions on where they can sit. Probably could have just explained you were on a paid ticket and they'd have let you sit where you wanted.

These days we usually buy everybody but me tickets, but we still use that system.
