Note - I normally don't positive space in uniform - it was just more convenient.
Preboards are not allowed to sit in the exit row seats. That said, the FA clearly didn't use common sense in this scenario. There seems to be a lot of that going around.

I didn’t say it was a bad plan. It’s just a bold plan.

You throw "Common sense" out there...

Okay.... so here is the deal....

Uniformed pilot for another carrier is given the courtesy to pre-board...

He or she takes a seat in the exit row because, really, their "pre-board" was an industry courtesy and they were not really pre-boarding. Yeah, I get it. I do.

Now look at it from the FA's prospective....

Here comes general boarding... including those folks who have earned A-List status so they can board early and get the best seats AND those people who just paid additional at the gate to board early....

And as they board.... they see a uniformed pilot who pre-boarded sitting in the prime exit row seats. (They have NO idea whether it is a WN pilot or another carrier's pilot because they don't know uniforms.)

Now... as a flight attendant....I am asking you... HOW do you explain this to the A-List passenger of the passenger who paid to board early?

How do you explain a uniformed pilot who boarded early sitting in a prime seat.... a seat that people very well may have paid extra for or a seat that A-List passengers are seeking....being occupied by a pre-boarding pilot?

All they see is a pilot boarding early (whom they WILL assume works for WN) sitting in a prime seat.

That's why I go to the back of the bus when JSing on SWA full flights. IMO all paying pax, of any priority, get better seats than a freeloader.

I will take advantage of the bin space, since losing my bag(s) on the way to work would be bad.

"Sorry sir/ma'am, but you know that at Southwest Airlines, we do not have assigned seats." How many times do you remind people of that little nugget? I'd say at least as many as "look to your left, look to your right and take that seat..."

That depends on how you were trained. Either all seats are prime seats, or we have no prime seats. But in any case, you were definitely trained to drive a point that "at Southwest Airlines, we do not have assigned seats, so look to your left, look to your right...."

Besides, in an emergency, I'm sure we agree that we'd rather have a trained crewmember in that seat, otherwise, the whole safety briefing is BS.
